This means that in NY and CA, when you include state and local taxes, some people will be paying over 80% in taxes. Thats just absurd, regardless of how much money anyone makes. The federal government does not have the right to take 70% of anyone's income, taking ~30% is questionable, especially considering how wasteful they are with it.
Yea, right where did she get this one from the UK where death duties on the nobility can run up to %80 of an estates value? And what will she do start issuing out to anyone claiming their disadvantaged. NY the state she represents is no example of fiscal common sense so my guess this will just create a cash pool for more ineffective programs that accomplish nothing...

AOC is not even seated yet, but is already rolling up her sleeves and going to work!

The article goes on to say that the job guarantee reflects lessons learned from Obamacare. Obamacare has survived not because of its structural qualities, but because it gave voters two new "superpowers." One was the rule regarding pre-existing conditions, and the other was the availability of cheap or free treatment through Medicaid. When repeal of Obamacare was tried, DC switchboards were jammed over the two "superpowers."

I'm somewhat skeptical of a climate change plan that does not include China and India, but you can't fault AOC for trying! She's really an inspiration!

How does she plan to pay for Utopia? By force?

Pay close attention to what that scatter plot chart tells us... Note that the highest levels of government benefits and services are provided by countries (Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Belgium) in which taxes are flat (everyone pays the same tax rate) or regressive (shown as the negative values along the bottom axis, meaning a greater tax burden is placed on those with lower incomes). And note where the USA falls on the graph. The USA has the most progressive tax system and therefore is least able to fund social program "wants" like single-payer Medicare for All health care, because the tax base is too narrow and overly dependent on the top.

(Scatter Plot info, for those who need more explanation of what Scatter Plots tell us: https://www.mathsisfun.com/data/scatter-xy-plots.html)

"...the progressivity of countries' tax codes is negatively correlated with the amount of redistribution they do.'

That's very succinct.

Many want... want... want... but FAIL to recognize and accept the need to actually PAY for what they want.

Great post and very good points. The VAT tax is where the real money is at for those who actually want to increase revenue without affecting growth.

So what?

I wonder if they made the cut off $10 million so it wouldn't hit most of the democratic celebrities/athletes.

Yes she is. She is a total ignoramus. I find it odd that Democrats who are horrified that Trump is inaccurate can love Cortez who is a total dunce.

No doubt that low education and low income added to her tally. They're even dumber than she is. She could come out with a million gaffes and they wouldn't know the difference. She knocked on doors and passed out fliers promising FREE everything. Why wouldn't such people believe her?

Being the candidate with the "D" after her name will get her automatically re-elected into her old age over there. Doesn't matter that she's a dingbat and has an extreme ideology (even if she herself doesn't understand that ideology).

Look, if the chairman of the Democratic National Committee believes that this idiot is "the future face of the Democratic party", then how can you fault a bunch of poorly educated know-nothings?

The only positive I can say about her is that she is not evil, just ignorant and stupid. There are two other new and radical Dem congresswomen who ARE evil. They are much more dangerous than this little girl.
It isn't just people in her district, Democrats all over the country love this ignoramus.

She is very charismatic when offering people free stuff from other people's money! If her numbers don't add up, if her rationale has holes - who cares - free crap!!!

You are generalizing a lot there.

But Cortez is probably too stupid to know this. And even if she did know this, she wouldn't say it.

If we are to have a European safety net - taxes will have to go up across the board including significantly on the middle and lower incomes. Nearly half the households in the US don't pay a federal income tax - many of those make a profit off of federal income taxes.

Democrats win that 47%. It won't sell well to say start paying in as much as it does to say free crap!!!

This Cortez chick is way over her head. Folks, she knows nothing and has no credibility whatsoever. If the Democrat Party finally goes belly up (and it eventually will), then she is at the epicenter of it. You can't take loopy loops like that seriously. You can't.

I don't disagree that she is talking about things she knows little to nothing about, but that never stopped any politician before and unlike her freshmen counterparts, OC and her unworkable schemes are getting national attention. Ignore her at your own peril.
The Dem party isnt going anywhere and its likely you'll soon see GOP'er's talking favorably about climate socialism in the not too distant future. Why? If it brainwashes enough people, it will become a way to mine votes and tax dollars. What politician isn't on board for that?

Why is this young inexperienced first term congresswoman being given so much attention? She will just be a back-bencher with little power and influence on Capitol Hill.
