'Mullah Muhammad Omar, the Taliban's supreme leader, issued a surprise edict that ordered the destruction of all statues.'
'The Great Buddhas of Bamiyan priceless artifacts that 800 years ago survived the wrathful cannon fire of Genghis Khan -- are being steadfastly destroyed bit by bit with hammers, spades and explosives, Afghanistan's Taliban militia stated officially today for the first time.'
This started with michelle Obama stating 'we have to rewrite our history'...what a strange statement and yet it generated no journalistic curiosity. The socialists plan had been in the works when MO let it slip. Apparently the democrats had a well written playbook for dividing the country to install a socialist regime that went a lot further than the euro socialism.
We live in a world where some social justice activist spins around and whatever he points at is a symbol or object that represents an imaginary offense the media then markets as a horrific reminder of slavery and oppression. when will cotton clothing be the next symbol to be found offensive.
Democrats continue to divide the nation where Obama and his kindred spirit, Putin, left off.
Everything you just posted is Bass ackwards. Thanks for the fairy tale.
On one level, this was desecration of a unique and scenic natural site.
Apart from that, if there was an equal number of prominent statues of Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Frederick Douglas, William Lloyd Garrison, and other anti slavery heroes of the same era, there might be fewer folks moaning about Confederate generals’ statues on both sides. Where are the statues of children being torn away from their mothers or people in shackles or on an auction block?

Exactly what I was going to say. You cannot separate this out and pretend that it doesn't matter. It's basically "Aside from that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play?"
And no one is trying to "erase history" - just to make it clear that there is no need to honor enemies of our country who waged a civil war against it as part of their attempt to keep fellow Americans enslaved.
When I was traveling by bus to my duty post in the Army, we went right by Stone Mountain. I was able to recognize the figures on the carving, even though I'd never heard of it before. I was amazed that in modern America, such an offensive display could exist. Some of my traveling buddies were African-American and I can imagine what they were thinking, when they saw that, on their way to serving our country. We'd had an ugly experience in Atlanta the day before, of mean-spirited racism against them, in a restaurant, where our group of 12 was eating dinner, in uniform.
As long as that carving remains there, it tells us what its supporters really think about equality. Those who passively tolerate it, are symbolically casting their lot along with them.
I am quite ok with the Stone Mountain memorial carving. I grew up attending the summer laser show that was projected on the carving with my family along with a takeaway dinner. I don't feel the least bit bad about the memorial, the reverence that we had for Lee or Jackson or my own ancestors that fought in the war.
Yes the property was acquired by the state when a segregationist governor was in power right after the Brown vs Board of Ed.
Strange how these monuments were put erected decades after the civil war ended, it seems like they are attempting to paint the confederacy in a positive light and make them heroes. So now they have this monument to confederate generals on a site of the KKK's rebirth. Rather strange to include an amusement park and chairlifts.
If you are going to whine and ****** about Confederate monuments because of slavery, then you may as well whine and ****** about monuments to Revolutionary figures like Washington and Jefferson, who supported slavery. But then I shouldn't put this in the minds of the progressives; they will probably call for the removal of their monuments too.
The men on the Stone Mountain monument are traitors that fought for a rogue "nation" that only existed to ensure enslavement of black people would be preserved. These are not "great" men.
BTW Columbus was a terrible person as well.
The United States was formed out of British colonies that rebelled. Are they "traitors" too?

We rebelled because of British authoritarian rule, the south attempted to secede and went to war because of their support of slavery, the two are not comparable.

What was the name of the duty post mentioned? Odds are it was named for a Confederate general
