The French have a lively civic movement unlike America where people worship the powerful.
Bernie is center right/left, he is not what this is about. Real left wing movements have nothing to do with taxes, they have to do with moving control of wealth from corporations to the workers.
That is why people are fighting for their rights, they are fighting against the thug Macron who serves bankers and the elite.

First of all, the word "Populist" comes from tbe same root word as "Population".
Populist = The people. As in "We the people".
The alternative is the elites, which most people who speak derisively about "Populists" fail to mention.
You are right about these people being mainstream socialist leftists. Their problem is they are still expecting Macron and the leadership of France to deliver on their utopian socialist promises, and not at their expense, either. Of course that is just not how socialism actually works. The promises are just a manipulative ploy to get power. The benefits are for the elites. Everyone else gets to suffer or pay. If they ever get to the point of casting off the accountability of democratic elections, that is when the horror show will really begin.
And that is how socialism ACTUALLY works.

Leftism is about turning wealth and power into the hands of the working class and away from the elite, it has nothing to do with taxes.
Democratic assemblies, worker councils, etc. That is what the French want, no more rent dictated by the elite and no more taxes dictated by the same people to keep the working class down.
Macron came to power promising to empower investment capitalists, and the American elite can't let its people know that these french protesters are not far right because that would expose the democrats as the corporate frauds they are.
Obama and all the liberal media/Hollywood united around this guy, that is our standard for what is 'left-wing'.

America and the UK have an authoritarian culture where people are taught to respect the elite and powerful.
That is why people in this country think the democrats and republicans are on different sides, they are both tools of the business class.

We wouldn't want to put the needs of the people ahead of you getting to wherever you were going on time.
These protest are coming from farmers, union workers, and students, all demanding more democracy in the economy instead of corporate rule and all calling for less rent and taxes and the poor working class.
Sure, fuel taxes impact lots of different people and the protests expanded to new people.
Are you denying the media coverage that says that the riots were sparked by the increase in fuel taxes. What evidence do you have that the media is lying when they were interviewing people early on saying such?
