There has been a war on Christians for 2000 years.
An odd statement considering Christians have been the aggressors in most wars and acts of hate and bigotry during those 2000 years. If there is a "war" on Christians it is more a defensive/retaliatory one.
Bullies getting a taste of their own medicine always cry the loudest about persecution.
Husband and I are atheists and we got lights up all over. We got a 7 ft tree inside and a 15 ft tree outside all decorated with ornaments and lights.
People need to lighten up. Not everything in life needs to be a political statement.
I am as agnostic as they come and like you, have outside lights all over the property and 4 trees inside. And I live in a single family HOA that does not impose on private property rights.
There has been a war on Christians for 2000 years.
Only War on Christmas in the US was waged by Christian Pilgrims in some of the colonies. Merry making and public acknowledgement of Christmas was banned. As immigrants poured in from Europe they refused to assimilate ( imagine that) and continued their own cultural traditions.
Took 263 years before Christmas became a Federal holiday and it coincided well with the growing commercialism of all things Christmas.
The fir tree has been used to celebrate pagan winter celebrations for thousands of years. The Edison Company offered Christmas lighting serves in 1870.
Havent you all heard yet...Christmas isnt about God or christianity anymore...thats outdated, today its about SPENDING MONEY, LOTS OF EXPENSIVE GIFTS, all under the guise of 'celebrating' the birth of Jesus!
Who knew that all the big box stores and other retail giants all loved Christianity so much?
Somehow I dont think the baby Jesus would want any part in this retail celebration.
I wonder if FOX would have been so quick to report if a home owner in a HOA won a legal argument to slaughter chickens in his front yard every night with some heavy duty spotlights on every day of Ramadan, in observance of Muslim religious beliefs? How dare the HOA try to interfere in his public display of religious devotion, as if Christmas lights are somehow a religious display?
The HOA made it a religious display with the way they worded their letter. It's nice you have your view of things but can you at least stick to the facts?
Quote:
Morris cited religious discrimination in his lawsuit, as the board's letter reportedly said it was "hesitant" to mention that some of the town's residents "are non-Christians or of another faith and I don’t even want to think of the problems that could bring up."
Maybe you didn't read the article you linked to? Seems about right for nut jobs with an agenda to push. Had the HOA not wrote what they did in their letter this would have been a case about an obnoxious neighbor violating HOA rules, of which there actually were none to address this issue hence the original letter, and that would have been that.
The article I read elsewhere said they have five days where they bring in a real camel and have activities, bringing in thousands of people.
It's not just lights. It's noise, crowds, blocked roads, camel dung, etc. It's great that he does this to raise money for charity - but let him find another way to do that.
I looked at other sources, too, and found the same thing (details that Fox, shame on them, neglected to report.) They also have live music. I love Christmas, and I adore tastefully decorated houses, but I would hate to live in that man's neighborhood. He's not simply practicing his faith, he's creating a massive headache for the other families on his street. Stupid HOA people should have stuck to that, and not mentioned the religious aspect at all. That's what caused them to lose the case.
