CNN literally spent more time framing Trump into the heart of the story than they did mentioning that the protests started over tax increases.

Personally, I think that the developed countries need to find a way to persuade Brazil from cutting down the Amazon rain forest to turn it into farm lands. IMO that's the greater threat to our planet's climate.
France gets 75% of it's energy from nuclear power, so if they motivate their country to drive electric cars instead of gas-running ones, or hybrids, through this carbon tax, that's pretty much only to be a good thing. They're doing just exactly what they should be doing. Hopefully this'll just motivate people to buy electric cars more, hopefully reducing their prices.

The U.S. needs to be as pro-nuclear as France, I think. I've heard some climate scientists express opposition to nuclear power...but those were alarmists who think we're all screwed and society is going to collapse and they're concerned about nuclear power plants going un-maintained when the world is populated by people who live like the gangs in the Fallout series. A lot of experts don't seem to believe we're that screwed yet.

Nuclear power would make electric cars, and investing energy into them, far more viable. I know Kansas is filled with windmills, and there those are a pretty good source of electricity, but that's not really viable in woodsy, hilly areas, or cities, or many places outside the great plains.

People fear nuclear power for good reason. The waste will be around forever...but the nuclear power plants wouldn't be a permanent thing. They'd be temporary, until we can invent fusion power, which would likely do everything they can due, but without the nuclear waste products. That'll be invented in a few decades...but it'll still definitely be a few decades, like something over three.

Until we build lots of nuclear power plants, there will be limited value to carbon taxes. Once we get more clean energy sources, however that happens, we can raise carbon taxes sky high and pretty much make everything better in general, including making the U.S. much more energy independent.

Fusion power probably isn't too far off. It'll be some number of decades though. With nuclear power plants and high carbon taxes, we could raise carbon taxes sky high, and most things would be better in general for that.It would push society to buy electric cars too.

Because 75% of France's energy comes from nuclear power, the carbon tax is exactly what they should be doing. The solution is, rather than protesting, the populace just needs to buy electric or hybrid cars, or drive less.

But I agree about getting Brazil to stop cutting down rainforest land, if possible.

I agree that people aren't going to stop eating meat. Healthy for us or not, we crave it, and that craving won't go away anytime soon.

Although, that's a problem because meat livestock like cows are not only a major source of methane, a potent greenhouse gas, but they consume large amounts of fresh water, and fresh water will become more valuable all the time. We're running out of ground water and fresh water in rivers all over the world, and de-salinization is quite expensive.

So...I'm hoping someone invents lots of the sorts of products that taste like meat, but aren't actually meat. They'll need to taste good though. A lot of that stuff isn't the best tasting.

Actually...a lot of seemingly pretty educated people are opposed to nuclear power, and a lot of them like it too. I'm not sure why there's such opposition to it though from some environmentalists. Where wind power works, I'm sure that's a great idea, but I'd think you'd want something more reliable than wind or solar as some kind of backup, at minimum, for those cloudy, breeze-less days, at least in areas where wind isn't common, like hilly areas and cities.

It's nice to see someone mention our water situation. That subject seems to get glossed over with all the arguing about warming.

As for the nuclear enthusiasts, yes it is currently a good source for clean (ish) energy, but as we've seen with Chernobyl and now Fukushima, the potential for catastrophic events shouldn't be glossed over. Fukushima is still leaking radioactive waste, and we won't know the true effect on the oceans for years.

Let's review the bought & paid for Globalists.
  • David Cameron - Gone (UK votes to leave the EU)
  • Obama - Gone (foolishly went UK to campaign against BREXIT)
  • Hillary Clinton - Gone
  • Merkel - Gone
Macron is next. His government won't last another year.

What do they all have in common? Heavily promoted and loved by the crooked corporate controlled USA MSM.

With nuclear power, there are two issues. First, keeping the plant operating smoothly and protecting plant from structural damage or accidents that would cause it to leak dangerously high levels of radiation to the outside environment. Secondly, dealing with the radioactive waste, storing it safely and also getting it to the "safe" storage site... which has to be secure and in a stable environment. Lastly, eventually, the power plant will age to the point where it has to be decommissioned and dismantled safely.

At least he's being true to his beliefs...or maybe just more taxes so that's my cynical self at work.

I've worked a significant portion of time in 3rd worldish countries and unless you get these nations on board (not gonna happen), what France does is a trickle. Actually if every nation did what France is doing, it wouldn't be near enough to avoid calamity if the climate calamity cabobb is right on their predictions.

If you believe what the climate catastrophe people are saying, we have to stop all carbon burning worldwide to have a chance at "saving the planet."

I believe we have to come up with an energy source that is cheaper and easily transportable like carbons before we are really going to have an effect.

Socialism is great, in theory. Socialism has killed more people than any other form of government.

Funny how people do not learn from history and are destined to repeat it.
