I met him in Dallas back in '93 and he was such an imposing figure. He was already going down hill but was so nice. He was a big guy too. He was definitely one of the greats. RIP...

Liked him in Ben Hur & Planet of the Apes- after that he politically took a turn to the 'dark side'.......

I'd go along with that. Great performance, good story.

Check out all his many roles, performances, directing etc:

Charlton Heston

TCM (bless that channel) re-ran Robert Osborne's 1998 interview with "Chuck" Heston this morning. I really enjoyed watching it so much I was late to work.

When I was a kid "Apes" was the role. I even have that 'paws' quote on my iPod -- see

PLANET OF THE APES PG.1:Largest Collection of Photos, Find VHS, DVDs HERE!

I don't think "Chuck" would mind that I think "10 Commandments" was one of the campiest movies off all time -- "Pharoah has the darkness of the plague made you see the light?"

"Ben Hur" wasn't campy but even Carol Burnett had fun with the rowing scenes..

I will truly miss him - he has been there all of my life. His politics aren't really important now, are they?

You really mean - when Heston showed his support for citizens having the right to private ownership of firearms, don't you?
