So...I agree. States can make a choice to be dirty, ignorant, poor and suffering.
It's always someone else's fault when you (collective) fail.

Yes. It's not a red state affliction.

some of us who hate the socialist democrat dogma (with a passion) and voted for trump are not rural residents or high school (only) graduates.

Things have improved quite a bit here in rural Tennessee. The majority of vehicles on the road have been upgraded. Maybe not all new but not nearly the number of clunkers I used to see.

Unemployment is at a very low level compared to five years ago.

I also use my "Drunk diver index" to look at the local economy. I walk my road every day and pick up litter. Seems like these a-holes are drinking better beer and eating out more often than a few years back. Used to be "Bud light" and "Natural light" on the roadways with snack bags of chips thrown out as well. Now I am seeing "Michelob ultra" and fast food trash.

This article is highlighting a location that deals with an extremely exaggerated version of the challenges of rural America. Much of eastern Kentucky away from the major highways is an exceptionally poor region with very low educational attainment and little economic activity, and was this way long before anyone imagined Trump would become president. Republican or Democratic administrations have not really made much of a difference in resolving the area's malaise. Most random locations in rural America are far better off these days than this specific part of Kentucky, yet many readers will take away from the Bloomberg article that a deeply depressed pocket of Appalachia is typical of just about all less populated, Trump-supporting territory.

The biggest failure of a recovery was The Obozo economy. No recovery for blue collar workers or the rust belt what so ever. Democrats failed miserably . Thats why Trump won the rust belt. Case Closed.

Pretty much., That and the fact that Hillary was just that bad of a choice. I would have backed just about any moderate democrat over Trump and infect wrote in Jim Webb. Many would have. Instead the DNC and the democrat party put it all behind Hillary. One can only guess the amount of back room dealing, bribery and pay offs.

Predicted what?

Rural America is rural and there's never been a plethora of jobs and there won't be any for at least another century.

I'm not talking about Republicans or Democrats. And I didn't bring up Hillary Clinton. I am talking about a man who thinks you need an ID to purchase broccoli in a grocery store, and he's never been in one. It's not just a working class issue, he doesn't have a clue how the vast majority of American people live. And as I said, how would he? He's not the least bit curious about anything outside of his own world. And it irritates me that so many working class people continue to fall for his BS. Sounded good at one time, but it's not working out is it? I want the damned stats. How are rural working class folks doing better under this administration? I know exactly how well his wealthy pals and family are doing.

Depends upon the store and how you are paying. I have been carded when I have paid by credit card.
Pay with a check and a valid ID is a must.
Yes actual working people pay with a check on occasion.
