I think Trump is the first, and may be the last, businessman we elected straight off the street.

There are vast differences between a government and a private business.

Those differences can be learned by a novice businessman, but they take time and experience to learn, as once elected the businessman is no longer. He is a President, and as such he may be required to do things he would never do when in business.

Agreed. I've often said Trump himself would never have hired anyone with his lack of experience to be the head honcho.

More like the first. Obama was the first and last of the activist candidates.

GWB was technically a businessman before he entered Politics. I'm sure there were plenty of others if you go back further in history.

GWB came from a political family. His father was president and his paternal gf was a US senator.

The only way you can have fun in politics is if you bring your own money to the table. Politics is no fun if you have to ride the fundraising circuit with hat in hand and do other people's bidding.

I think we are just beginning to see a surge of billionaires into politics.
