True. But it goes further back and also begs the question: how come liberals are so successful if they are anti-capitalist "Marxists" who don't understand business? The narrative is that smart business is the domain of conservatives and liberals are just waiting for the handout.
Agreed it is a talking point of the right. Another one is to the people who support targeted tax increases such as cigarette and alcohol have now been targeted themselves. Those same people, partisan from both parties I might add were all gung ho about making those nasty smokers and drinkers pay more in taxes. But now they been targeted by which state they live in and guess what? they don't like it.
I have no sympathy for hypocrites and I have to give Mitch a thumbs up by making them a target, IMO could n't have happened to a nicer group.
A salary of $200K in downstate New York does not make one rich.
A lot of people don't understand this. There are plenty of people in the high CoL states that pay over $10,000 in real estate/property taxes that are not "rich." Their effective net pay is squarely middle class. High salaries, equal high real estate costs.
Honestly, we should get rid of all the deductions for these taxes. Why should someone living in Indiana who makes $100,000 get their $2,000 of taxes deducted while someone in New Jersey making $200,000 but has $14,000 in property taxes not get the same? Let's just put the cap at ZERO. People having a great standard of living in cheaper states also get great tax credits for paying their kids' college tuitions. Once you hit a magic number income because you happen to live in an expensive area, you lose that one too.
I can't tell you how much people DO NOT understand cost of living. Over in the DC and VA forum there's generally a post every couple of weeks about someone from a small town getting a job in the DC area with a significant pay increase but they are shocked that they can't rent a 1 bedroom apartment for less than $1500 per month. Suddenly they find that the several thousand dollars (sometimes double digits) more they received in their offer is quickly eaten up by housing costs (at a minimum).

I don't think that people don't get it necessarily. They just don't really care.
Imagine being a liberal leader, one day you are foaming at the mouth against tax cuts that favored the 1% and the next day you are on the 1% side seeking tax cuts in their favor. Talk about looking stupid and hypocritical.
This is not the 1%, its upper middle class people many of whom are already limited by deductions when the AMT kicks in to limit deductions. You are thinking of the top .1% benefitting from the roll back of the estate tax, that was Trumps priority.
It's a direct attack on upper middle class people in blue states almost without exception.
If those people are Trump culters and want to do a "thank you sir, may I have another" while the GOP screws them because they hate liberals, they should offer to pay more. (Taking the line of logic Republicans so often take when it comes to taxes)
LOL....complains about federal income tax being higher on upper middle. Doesn't complain about the state and local taxes being higher on them.
Sorry, the meme of "tax cuts for the rich" can't be rolled back now. Pay your fair share. You shouldn't get a break from federal tax just because you get gouged locally.
Ooooh, also remember, that's the price you pay for living in the greatest parts of the US and not in flyover country!
A bunch of slaves arguing over how much Master is allowed to steal from them.
The Stockholm Syndrome is real in this thread.
