But just because what we did is legal, it doesn't make it wise.
What laws are those?

China just banned iphones, except the latest models. If the Huawei lady is extradited China could probably respond by banning all apple products.
This is what it is all about. Using bogus laws to destroy the competition. I heard some politicians are talking about completely banning Huawei. Escalation continues.

This will tank the US economy and dive the world into a depression. It will be America's own doing.

This could start a hostage taking war in retaliations. In diplomatic world, things like that happened in the past.

Hard to know 100% since at the CFO's request Canada put in place a publication ban. But most likely this one:

Quote:
§560.205 Prohibited reexportation of goods, technology, or services to Iran or the Government of Iran by persons other than United States persons; exceptions.
Given that she used fraud to enable the crime, then its also "trying to defraud U.S. financial institutions". I could look that one up too. Bottom line is she legitimately faces up to 30 years in prison, but it depends on the charges.

Again....this is a bad idea that will end poorly.

This is a US law, she is not beholden to this law. This law only has domain inside US borders and over US registered entities. It does not apply to Chinese citizens or Chinese entities.

What you said, and the logic you used, is like Saudi Arabia kidnapping and beheading a US citizen wanted for sodomy (done in the USA) and charged against Saudi anti-sodomy laws. Let's presuppose for example's sake this US citizen who practices sodomy was flying through Dubai and Saudi officials pressured the UAE into detaining this US citizen and transferring them over to Saudi Arabia to be charged in Saudi Arabia using Saudi laws. Can you not see how crazy this is?

Can you not see this?

US laws....why should other countries follow? Who died and made the US king? Watch out Boeing and other US arms manufacturers. There is a ban by China against selling arms to taiwan.....all of your arses are fair game now.

The United states disagrees. They made it a US crime for anyone to do this. Additionally she committed fraud via US companies. By your argument if someone defrauded a US company there would be no law against it if they did it from another country. That of course is nonsense. And Canada has a law allowing extradition.

Just as crazy as your argument that laws not apply to foreigners. There are reasons for countries to make laws that apply everywhere. The US made it clear-if you trade with Iran-even if a foreign national, you will have committed a US crime. That she defrauded a US company to do so makes it even easier to argue that this applies.

I think we agree in more ways then you realize. Heres the secret about US laws. They only work well when tempered by discretion. For example, just fining Huawei or impacting their business might do more to dissuade others then this, which is very personal, and unlikely to lead to a positive outcome. And like you say, there is something unjust about arresting someone from a foreign country who broke what at heart is a political law that their country did not view as a crime. But again, this was US technology she moved there. NOT technology that belonged to China. So...yup. Its a crime. Its just unwise to pursue this in this fashion.

US technology, and a US company she lied too. Thats why the US has some say here. Its unwise to do it this way, but the application of the law DOES make more sense then you and others imply.
