The people fighting tooth and nail to keep the confederate flag in a place of honor? Republicans. And they do not mention it as a symbol of a shameful past, quite the contrary. They talk about it as a "symbol of the South we love", an expression of "values".
Show me a southern Republican backing a monument to the suffering of slaves. You can't, and you know you can't. It wasn't Republicans who stood behind the lynching memorial in Montgomery.

Trump Republicans, who are riding a blood red wave to feed their personal greed for money and power are only safe with their own kind. The rest of the Country see s traitors.
If a Democrat gained the seat of POTUS in the same manner .... the Country would be equally up in arms to remove all the players and seek restitution for the Countries piggy bank.
