They were colluding long before the contraction of the industry.
You are correct. However, certain segments of the industry are definitely under pressure from virtual monopolies being created and the govt is doing nothing on that end.
I don't care who interferes with what. Insulin and the supplies needed can break the bank. The cost is so out of control even with Insurance. That people ration it. I don't think non Diabetics can understand the strain the cost of life saving insulin causes. I'm sure many Diabetics in Colorado are rejoicing with the $100 cap. I know I would if I lived in Colorado.
This is just my opinion. This is the cynical side of me talking. Diabetics need insulin. And the persons who are the most likely to need the insulin can no longer afford it. What happens when you don't have insulin and you're a diabetic? It can get risky. By making insulin unaffordable, this could trigger alot of deaths. It could be a sort of forced Darwinism. I'm not saying this is absolutely true. I'm saying that if this is the case, it wouldn't surprise me.
When I lost insurance for a while I was surprised you could buy Insulin without a prescription(yes no prescription) for 25$ a vial at Walmart. Their Relion brand ask at the pharmacy. It is the older type of Insulin that people used for decades and it still works. But it takes more thinking on your part to get your dosage right.

But as pointed out on page 1 insulin really isn't unaffordable or even expensive for most people, even without insurance. What's expensive is analogs. That's mostly, although certainly not entirely, convenience. Much less sticking and pricking all that sticking and pricking and juggling what you were eating with how much insulin you are shooting with in the analogs. On the other hand if I were insulin dependent and had to choose between paying out of pocked for analogs, I'd probably go with the sticking and pricking even though I could afford the analogs without insurance. Which is sort of the problem. As long as the insurance is picking up the tab, sure, everyone is going to just get the analogs.

Deaths have already happened because people couldn't afford it. Recently a 20 something died
because he couldn't afford rent food and insulin. He didn't tell anyone how serious things had become. I believe he was just starting out on his own. New job, apt. He no longer was eligible for his parents health Insurance. He was a Type 1 diabetic. Daily insulin injections or a pump is required. Or death is a certainty. As with the young man.
