I noticed in the Mt. Rushmore poll, several posters suggested Bob Mueller as an addition to Rushmore. Mueller is getting adoration from liberals, and denunciation from conservatives these days.

In July 2001, President W. Bush was looking for a new FBI director. Louis Freeh had been a disaster. It was Attorney General John ******** who pushed for Mueller as new director. ******** had worked with Mueller, and had a high regard for him. Mueller was a decorated (Purple Heart, Bronze Star) Marine Lt. in Vietnam. He wanted to become an FBI agent, so he got a law degree from U of Virginia.

He wound up working for the US Atty office in San Francisco. Then he went to private practice at a prestigious law firm. But he preferred the prosecutor role, so he gave up his $400,000 partner gig. Eric Holder, who brought him back on board, expressed surprise that Mueller would take what Holder considered a relatively low-level job.

******** often seems to get a bad rap from the left. He was son of an Assemblies of God minister who went to Yale, and then earned a law degree from the University of Chicago (one of the top in the US, where Pres. Obama taught). Here's a recent interview of ******** from NPR:

Quote:
[Mueller's] even-handedness, honesty, fairness - I [John A.] called him square-jaw McGraw because he was - he was just...
He's a very, very hardworking - I never found him to be duplicitous, always gave his very best.
******** pushed for Mueller as FBI director, and brought W. Bush around, who said "Mueller's my man." Does Atty. Gen ********'s longstanding friendship with Mueller cause you to re-evaluate your opinion of ********?

(sorry for the bowdlerization of A*S*H*C*R*O*F*T--don't know why CD does that....)

******** is a Pence-style evangelical. His endorsement of Mueller should carry a lot of weight with the Trump crowd.
