Of course, President Trump is trying to change that, too (Obama just went along with that foolishness), but Democrats and leftist interest groups are fighting him in court. With an effective wall, you'll sharply cut down on the number of people who are able to cross in the first place. A win win for the US.

You know something is horribly wrong with the system when illegal entrants walk up to border patrol agents and voluntarily surrender to them because it will get them precisely what they were seeking. Something is wrong when immigrating illegally is a faster, easier, safer, and more rewarding process than immigrating legally.

Mushroom Donny seems to be getting desperate. After he claimed he would be "proud" to shutdown the US gov't, Trump realizes this will be his shutdown. He owns it.

And in the scheme of things, $5B is a small amount of money. We will make that back up in the first month (after it's built) by slowing the traffic of illegals.
"Don the Builder" has no clue about the logistical costs of building that border wall. 5 billion won't as much as cover the cost of materials let alone labor, land purchase, and logistics of the terrain. Some estimates are as high as 67 billion. 5 billion will get us a literal bridge to nowhere.

The Trump administration could potentially waste billions of dollars on a border wall because it failed to fully account for factors like varying terrain and land ownership along the Southwest border, according to this report.

Mitch better careful. Using a nuclear option would ensure Trump & the GOP get destroyed in 2020, and the dems could then use the nuclear option if they wish.

It’s been mentioned both here and on the news that the savings the US will receive as a result of the new NAFTA plan with Mexico would create a surplus that will help finance the wall.

Sorry I don’t have any snark or partisan sarcasm to offer, but here at least is an answer.

Ps: I’m not a Trump voter, but I support the wall. I would gladly support the 5b tab to build it.

This is great...first nancy said (paraphrasing) you don't have the votes...trump, yes we do, then take the vote....o.k. Booommmmmmmmmmmm...it passes...

Now it squarely in the lap of ole' chucky...and he has no clue what to do now....

If chuck shuts down the USG, Trump will take the blame, but it's extremely clear that the dems don't want border safety....

Lets remind folks:

Quote:
The term “criminal alien” refers to aliens who have been convicted of one or more crimes, whether in the United States or abroad, prior to interdiction by the U.S. Border Patrol; it does not include convictions for conduct that is not deemed criminal by the United States. Arrests of criminal aliens are a subset of total apprehensions by U.S. Border Patrol.

17 a day...A DAY were caught in FY18....these are the ones who were caught.

In FY18, Congress provided $1.375B for border wall construction which equates to approximately 84 miles of border wall in multiple locations across the Southwest border, including:
  • $251M for a secondary border wall in the San Diego Sector
  • $445M to construct a new levee wall system in the Rio Grande Valley Sector
  • $196M to construct a new steel bollard wall system in Rio Grande Valley Sector
  • $445M for a primary pedestrian wall in San Diego, El Centro, Yuma and Tucson Sectors
What’s next you might ask? When combined with the funds provided in FY 2017 and FY 2018, if funded at $5B in FY 2019 DHS expects to construct more than 330 miles of border wall in the U.S. Border Patrol’s highest priority locations across the Southwest border.

DHS is positioned to construct 215 miles of Border Patrol’s highest priority border wall miles including:
  • ~5 miles in San Diego Sector in California
  • ~14 miles in El Centro Sector in California
  • ~27 miles in Yuma Sector in Arizona
  • ~9 miles in El Paso Sector in New Mexico
  • ~55 miles in Laredo Sector in Texas
  • ~104 miles in Rio Grande Valley Sector in Texas

How effective is this new border wall? On Sunday, when a violent mob of 1,000 people stormed our Southern border, we found the newly constructed portions of the wall to be very effective.
