Next few weeks will turn this into House compromising. SNAP is likely out of funds for March for one thing. It cannot be funded at the last minute and distributed. In all likelihood, at the latest a CR would need to be signed in next 2-3 weeks to stop an interruption there.

Same is true for most social welfare programs.

The productive majority of Americans will be in the same shape with or w/o the shutdown ending.

But the reality is, Social Welfare and illegals are all Dems care about, and I doubt they will want these interrupted. So, in all likelihood, a few more weeks will see House getting far more likely to offer a compromise including massive additional border funding, for discretionary WH/Senate uses. The alternative is to see social welfare funding end for an extended period of time.

Should the border patrol decide to stay home, Trump would deploy the military to the border, quicker than you can say it.

Bob.

I understand that his 35% are with him no matter what. But I still have hopes that the 65% will at some point push Congress to work out a deal, take it to Trump with the understanding that a veto will be overridden and get the country back on track.

Having served in the US Coast Guard, it really saddens me how they are being treated in this mess. And even more disheartening is the way that so many people feel toward them and other federal workers. I realize that Trump is one of those people who is only concerned with himself and is unable to feel empathy toward others. I just didn't realize how many other Trumps there were around.
The President is far from "being in a corner".
What most of you brain dead democrats fail to understand is, he is commander and chief of all military in this country, and he can call them up at ANY TIME to build the wall with money from military funds.
So blabber on all you want, he tried to compromise today, but he met a brick wall (pun intended) with the dem leadership.

Just how long before he decides it is stupid to think he can get anything from the dems, and decides to call in the army to build the wall.
Actually I think that decision is right around the corner.
Along with that declaration, you can bet the daca people will be ****tin their pants wondering how much time is going to pass before ice is knocking on their doors.
You don't actually believe , if the army funds, and personnel are building the wall, Trump is going to let illegals stay in this country do you?

Bob.

You can bet your life that the Pentagon, will ask for accountability. Every nail, hole, contractors, an all material spreadsheet. Democrats are no more brain dead than the loving adoring fans of trump. They are asking for accountability, also. It's crazy to fork over 6 billion dollars, without knowing where the money is going. With trumps' reputation, he could be wanting to line his own pockets.

We all want a safe southern and northern border. How we get there should take more time than just throwing wild ideas around. People need to be safe at the borders. That includes the border patrol.

The poster you are answering is former Coast Guard. All military should be paid. The Coast Guard, along with Secret Service, not getting paid is a complete disgrace.

At least trump came out and addressed the situation. The Democrats, plus some Republicans, want the Federal employees back to work, why not have them go back to work and than hash out this border security. This should not be a political campaign; both sides need to calm down and find an arbitrator/mediator and resolve this crisis ASAP.

If the Dems don't like it, or want to tweak it, give a counter offer. That's what you do, it's called a compromise. Seriously, come on, make a deal. It's like the Dems like illegals better than they like us citizens.

BTW, we allow into this country on an annual basis 1 million legal immigrants per year. How long do you think allowing in such large numbers is sustainable? How much is too much for you? A population of 1 billion? India has over 1 billion people and Bangalore doesn't have enough potable water. Is such a future what you want for the US? I would think that since all you dems claim to care about the environment, you would realize that fewer people allowed into the country is the far better solution when it comes to protecting our natural resources.
Yeah, our natural resources are stretched in the southwest, we need to remember that.

Is this f***ing shutdown ever going to end? Are the democrats ever going to make a counteroffer?

This is absolutely ridiculous.
