Why were you expecting to hear anything new from last night's speech?
Because there was a lot of hype and speculation about what he might be planning to announce, I suppose. You have to admit, asking all the networks to set aside time for a Presidential address is a bit out of the ordinary.

Shameful re-election campaign speech hardly disguised by his use of the Oval Office. Don't ignore his attempt to fleece his marks out of $5 each for an urgent goal of $500,000 for a sham border security fund that the fine print states is really a contribution to his re-election. Yes he really did send an e-mail, pre and post speech, to deceive his dwindling supporters, calling it the "Official Secure The Border Fund". In reality, the money goes to the joint fundraising committee for the Trump campaign and the Republican Party.

Despicable disgrace to America and the office he so cavalierly degrades.

When Trump requested this air time, I thought he had some important new discovery or announcement that compelled prime-time audiences to listen. Instead it was a lot more of the same.
THIS is what I'm hearing from Democrats, Republicans, conservatives, liberals and independents.

What a waste of time.

There isn't anything different happening on the U.S.-Mexico border today that wasn't already happening 30 years ago.

Our incompetent Government has simply been unwilling to fix the border issue all these years.

As to whether it's a crisis or not, I'll trust the word of our border agents on the ground over the left wing politicians who have continually reneged on promises to secure the borders. Any observer who's been paying attention to news over the past twenty years knows that massive caravans of women and children showing up on the border is a new thing. So is the opioid crisis. So is the fact that murders and violent crime by illegals are on the rise. So, you might think it's not a crisis - because you are told to think that by the DNC - but for people dealing with these tragedies, it is very, very real.

Dick Durbin's "Fact" doesn't contradict anything Trump said. He's another liberal idiot who should be retired, but the voters in Chicago are too stupid to do anything but mindlessly vote (D).

The fact that Democrats have backed bills to reopen the government ignores the issue. The issue is border security, and the Democrats are shutting down the government over a paltry $5.6B even though they have previously authorized far more than that. They are the ones completely unwilling to negotiate, and thus they are the ones completely unwilling to reopen the government. Again, this is nothing new to any objective observer of the antics of these "resist" politicians since their preferred candidate lost a presidential election.
This is an extraordinarily dangerous path to take. The "facts" you reject are the actual data points collected by the border agents themselves. Instead you prefer anecdotal stories and experiences. That is the worst possible way to form opinions and make decisions.

Furthermore, it is really really important to understand that Trumps examples of immigrant violence and drug smuggling will in no way be affected by a wall. Those people/drugs are coming through legal points of entry.

Finally, it is implied (but never stated) that this $5.6 billion wall funding will be to build new walls where there are not currently any barriers. Since we already have barriers at populated points like San Diego, presumably the new walls will be in more remote locations. To prevent people from simply digging under them or putting up a fence over them, constant surveillance of the remote areas will need to be continued. If we are going to constantly watch these remote areas anyway, why do we need the wall in the first place? Can't we just pick them up as they cross the desert? This is why the Democrats say we don't need a wall.

It was just another episode from the Drama Queen Presidency. Nothing new, nothing accomplished.

President Trump is ok at the teleprompter, he is much better at just saying what he thinks.

I prefer President Trumps way, we get honest thoughts, not political poets who say (read) one thing and think and do another.

This is not a winning issue for liberals. It never has been and never will be, unless they turn the entire country into Mexifornia as they so fervently desire.

You have a valid point. South, Central America and Mexico shouldn't be able to pour through our border like it's not there. This is also not an issue where Trump gets to hold hundreds of thousands of federal employees hostage to his legislative agenda.
