That's part of it, the other part is their culture is thousands of years old, ours is hundreds of years old, and they, like most of the world, hate our arrogance. When I hear people talk about underestimating American resolve,
I'm reminded that any engagement would be one where we are fighting in their backyard, which is half a world away, against an enemy that would be suicidally brave, with a military that is exhausted from non stop rotations to Iraq and Afghanistan.
If anyone is not to be underestimated, it is the Chinese. If they used killer satellites to disable our electronic communications, effectively placing a protective bubble around their assets, all of our superior technology becomes worthless. And that is only a single scenario, there are others.
Americans think everyone is scared of them. They don’t realize that people don’t jump when we yell ‘boo’ anymore. You can only bully people for so long before they see right through you.

You do understand the rest of the world is mostly run by tyrannies and dictators, who couldn’t care less about their own people?

Naval historians put down 1906 as the year when the balance of power shifted conclusively to those nations who could afford to build dreadnoughts. With the launch of the eponymous battleship, every fighting ship in the world became obsolete overnight. The amount of money and manhours that just became irrelevant was staggering.
Today's dreadnought is the carrier, because dreadnoughts slipped from their position ca. 1941. I won't bet what date future historians will put down as the year the carrier joined the dreadnought. But I am willing to bet that it's going to be a Chinese weapon that puts the carrier on the shelf next to the battleship.

Agreed. (although the Russians might have beat them to the punch)
They won't attack anyone, China's problem is they can't afford a war even if they act like they can. It isn't just the financial costs of war, but they don't have the public support for it.
This is them putting on airs over the Huawei arrest
Another Huawei executive was arrested in Poland for spying.
