Healthcare has always been managed too much. From big Pharm which you childishly deflect from to the over bearing regulations, to the laws that prohibited insurance from always being allowed to cross state lines.

Yes there are. To the point that hospitals have to show a need before they are allowed to build. That's how unfree of a market it was and still is.
