Wow, i'm surprised by this corporate marketing strategy. Insinuating men are bullying, toxic thugs doesn't sound like a good way to get men to buy a product from your company.
In fact, women who love men and think this ad is full of **** may avoid the P&G brand as well. I plan to do so.
It is not insinuating that all men are bullying, toxic thugs. It is pointing out that good men are not.
I love men. I love them most when they stand up for what's right.

This is modern America. Blacks make up 12.5% of the population yet they are easily in 40% of all commercials. There are more commercials with mixed race marriages and mixed sex marriages.
The ad agencies are trying to "fix us".
Yeah, I think we're barking up the wrong tree trying to figure out what this is from a marketing standpoint.

I have a beard, sort of, not that it's some big backwoodsman thing, more an urbane Tony Stark look.
I also trim the bushes, because, firstly it stops hair getting caught in my underwear, or other places, and because it causes the old chap to look more impressive.

Wow. Just wow. In the circles I run in the women are just as bad and at times worse than men with rough humor and off the cuff behavior. Come roundup, branding and such time one will see behavior from the gals that easily rivals the men and they will give as good or better than they get. And it's all laughed at.
But city gals are different. And they are the ones pushing this "toxic masculinity" nonsense. No not all city gals are this way but the ones at the head of this #MeToo s*** are getting carried away. Men have to be afraid to be men any more. Being a man doesn't mean being a crass boor. (sigh) And now men are waxing and shaving body hair and trying to look more like women. What's up with THAT? At the same time many men are pushing back as well. A schism is developing.
Perhaps with beards being all the rage they were already losing customers even before this mindless faux pas.
Its interesting to see how many people are brand loyal. I have read different comments about Gillette and how some have used the products faithfully for 30 years or whatever.
I have not used their products much. I am pocket book loyal and never brand loyal. I have a high end European rechargeable electric shaver that I picked up at a garage sale for $5. Replaced the shaving head and its the same as brand new. Disposable razors seem like a waste of money and do not work as well.
But I will boycott both Gillette and P & G. To paraphrase Laura Ingram. Just shut up and sell your products.

I don't know how Gillette's sales are or if they've been losing business or not but with the shave club and Harry's razors in the market now there are lower priced alternatives that work just as well. In my house we switched a while ago and it had nothing to do with ads or politics, it just made sense. Now that they're accusing their user base of having toxic masculinity I'm certainly not motivated to give them a second chance though.
