What definition do you give to the word "comprehensive"?

Bob

So Trump is stuck in DC, waiting for Mueller's next move, no golfing, and getting his butt handed to him by a woman.

Must be a nightmare for him.

Well at least Pelosi was willing to go to Afghanistan. And the President? Or maybe dodging stray golf balls qualifies as being in a combat zone. Our government has degenerated into a schoolyard brawl. There are no adults in Washington these days.

Those who are pushing back so much against the idea of postponing the SOTU until the shutdown is over seem to assume that the shutdown will still be going strong two weeks from now. I know Hannity is encouraging Trump to make sure the government is still shut down when he gives the address. The White House's silence on Pelosi's request appears to contradict any notion that Trump intends to negotiate in good faith before then.

By January 30th, the Secret Service will have been working without pay for nearly a month. Yes, I would be concerned about security, too. That's kind of a no-brainer.
It's Pelosi and the awful Democrats who are assuming the shutdown will be ongoing, not anyone else. They can make that assumption because they know they are not going to negotiate on anything. That's why this entire shutdown is 100% the fault of the Democrats.

Comprehensive = amnesty.

Even if it isn't meant that way(wink wink, nudge nudge) that's how people interpret it, so they need to come up with a different word if they plan to sell it.

Suddenly you believe everything Trump says? Great, baby steps. He was wrong on that. Trump stupidly assumed the awful Democrats would conduct themselves in good faith and negotiate. He should know better - these people don't care one bit about governing and only care about power.

There is no requirement that it be a speech, but it is required to be given to Congress. Not the American people, and not the Senate, but the Congress as a whole.

Trump is free to address the American people when he wants, but he is not free to walk into the location of a co-equal branch of government and demand the right to speak there. And if he addressed solely the Senate, he would be in breach of his Constitutionally obligated duties as President.
Bzzt .......... Article One of the United States Constitution establishes the legislative branch of the federal government, the United States Congress. Under Article One, Congress is a bicameral legislature consisting of the House of Representatives and the Senate.

Nancy clearly believes SHE is the US Congress ..... she is wrong. The Entire House and the Entire Senate are the US Congress. Absolutely nothing indicates that Nancy Pelosi is the US Congress or even that the US Representative that she has in a stranglehold are the US Congress.

It's certainly customary for the State of the Union address to be held in the US House, but their is no rule on it. It's Precedent ..... just as it is Precedent for the President of the United States to be welcome there. Nancy is setting a new Precedent and throwing out Tradition that has stood for over 100 years.

Her Choice .... AND the Choice of the Elected Representatives that allow her to throw out this Precedent.

And yet still wrong. The SOTU is held before a joint session of Congress. It happens to be in the House because they physically have the room, and the Speaker is the one who proposes the Resolution to invite the President to speak. Speaker Pelosi is following custom on this, not trying to usurp power as you seem to believe.

And the tradition of delivering a written address existed for over a century too, before Wilson decided to deliver it in person. Things change with time, and with circumstances as well, because there have been several occasions since 1913 when the SOTU was postponed or delivered in writing rather than by a personal address to Congress.
