If a Democratic president has deliberately shut down the government in a snit, then I expect it will play out the same way, and it should.

Please note that Pelosi has stated emphatically that once the government is open and running, he is welcome to come. The ball is in Lil' Donnie's court.

I think that will not happen, for the following reasons.

Trump is now going to relocate the SOTU to a location of his choosing, which will probably be a much bigger venue, which will almost assuredly be filled with his partisan followers. Many Democrats will boycott and this will turn into a must-see SOTU/Trump Rally, televised live on all the major networks.

This is going to be very bad for the Democrats and a precedent they will not want continued. The Democrats will be begging Trump to return to the House next year, where they can at least sit on their hands and act out in protest, and make the focus their spinmeisters in Congress and on television.

With the Democrats and the left boycotting and pouting, how are they going to do that effectively?

No, I appreciate your perspective, and the Democrats would probably like to think that is their only, time distant concern. But this is going to be an epic fully-televised political beatdown of the Democrats by Trump that they will have all but tapped out of before he ever stands up to speak.

We will almost assuredly be back in the the House next year, unless Trump just decides this was too much fun and cannot resist doing it again, regardless of whether Pelosi and the Democrats invite him back or not.

President Donald Trump has abandoned his push to deliver the State of the Union address in the House chamber next week and says he will look for another location. "We'll do something in the alternative," he told reporters Wednesday.

Trump and aides have explored alternative venues, including cities around the country. Republican officials in Michigan and North Carolina have invited Trump to give his speech in their states.
So a "State of the Minority of the Union that Loves Me" address rather than a State of the Union address, really.

If Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats want to take their toys and spend that evening pouting in the political closet, that is their right as American politicians. I personally think they will come to regret that decision. We will see, soon enough.

This latest stunt puts to rest the lie that Republicans treated Obama worse than Democrats have treated Trump.

Trump has earned exactly what the Speaker did today. It is the Trump shutdown.

Trump has kept 800 k plus from getting paid and demanded they continue to work.

Democrats have killed numerous people through violent crime and drug overdoses, and aided and abetted countless acts of human trafficking and child sex crimes by their refusal to seriously address border security.

How many dead bodies have to pile up before liberal partisan hacks led by their Mexico-first leaders act responsibly?

Since by law he is prevented from delivering the SOTU address without the proper protocols, Trump as always demonstrates that laws are not made for people like him.
