Do you mean like these progressives?

He misses old style labor Dems.

The definition of progressive was different ca 1980 when the Dems could be called the party of Joe Sixpack

Progressive now involves support for "oppressed groups" now. The Dems abandoned large swaths of center left and Trump played them into the presidency.

I see little to no evidence the Dems want Joe Sixpack back.

That sad...

I'm sick and tired of all these fake progressives. It used to be that Dems represented the "every man", and Republicans tended to side with big business and the elites. But the more I get to know some of the progressives I meet, it seems that all I see is big talk and little walk. They've straight up abandoned their ideals of fighting for the little guy. Now it seems like "little guy" simply means brown skinned, immigrant, of the female sex, and LGBTQ.

"Hey, hey, fake progressives, just because you're a white male doesn't mean you grew up upper class and privileged!"

Some of us actually grew up quite poor and dug ourselves out of poverty, thankfully will help from the system.

These fake progressives have all but abandoned underprivileged white people (men mostly) in their crusade to defend only minorities and amnesty-seeking immigrants, as if we've magically had all of our own issues at home resolved.

You've abandoned us, and then scratch your head wondering why did all these white Millennial men start wearing 'MAGA' hats? I wonder why nationalism is taking hold all around the world. Hmm...could it be that you've forsaken those of us that you call your fellow Americans?

All the while living in their safe, secure enclaves surrounded by other liberal elite, upper middle class white folks...far, far away from those brown people they so desperately feel bad for.

"Hey, fake progressives, we're here, too, in your very own backyard, and we also have issues that need to be addressed! Just because we're white doesn't mean we've got it all figured out and life handed to us on a silver platter."

Frankly, I'm sick and tired of supporting their agenda while ultimately feeling like they've all but abandoned me, and also curse me behind my back for my alleged 'white privilege'. Gee whiz, I sure wish I had experienced that white privilege first hand, or else I wouldn't still be paying for my college tuition and fearing the day I need to go to the ER for anything major. I wish I was automatically handed the keys to the world due to my 'white privilege', but unfortunately they must have passed over our town for some of those more elite communities across the tracks.

Me thinks that these 'fake progressives' don't really understand the problems in their own backyard, because my guess is that they probably lived a very privileged life and never had to struggle growing up.

So if you want my continued support come 2020, and others like me, I strongly advise you start including us in your fight for the 'little guy'. We're not all blessed and wealthy. Help us to help you.
Fake progressives are just hustlers looking for money. It I no different than the fake Christians who were deep down Greco-Roman pagans that wanted economic patronage from the Imperial state during the late twilight years of the Roman Empire.

A good example is Shaun King, and I'm happy that black people who work in acvitivism are calling him out.

There was a major shift by Democrats where identity politics is most important. Yet there are some individuals such as Bernie Sanders who value economic populism over identity politics....which is a reason the Dem establishment doesn't like him.

Yes and no.

There are a few old style Dems left.

Sherrod Brown crushed his GOP opponent in what otherwise was a red wave in Ohio. He caused A LOT of ticket splitting.

The left has gone off the rails with extreme identity politics. As I have posted before, identity politics has actually morphed into a form of racism.

Identity politics worked for President Obama. For one thing, he had the intellectual capacity to make it work. Hillary Clinton did not, and it didn't work for her. Dems need to get back to a more traditional JFK/Truman approach. Steve Bannon has been described as a JFK/Truman Democrat. Growing up, his whole family were Democrats. So it was actually the shift to ID politics that gave us Donald Trump.

Look at the issue of education, for example. US education keeps going downhill. Where are the Democrats proposing to do something about that? From another thread:

This is a good point too. One of the things I did like about Bernie was his focus on trying to bring back unions. Private sector workers are now down to about 6% unionized. Where are the Democrats (other than Bernie) talking about this? Why no labor reform in 2008 when Dems held the House, White House, and Senate???

The OP, Travis t and some others will enjoy this article. It's about how the Democrats identity politics has become so extreme that it can be called "Identity Stalinism".

Some Democrats are genuinely surprised that so many lower class white people supposedly vote against their economic self interests by voting Republican. They fail to understand that their identity politics is a huge turn off. Since white males are at the bottom of the totem pole for the Democrats why would they vote for a party who hates them?

Those progressives are the ones that make great comedy material. While their intentions or statements on sociopolitical issues are often noble, how they express or implement their plans often helps account for why people might not take them seriously.
