Since taking the helm of the legislature on Jan. 5, Guaido has aggressively pushed the military and the international community to recognize him as the rightful head of state. After Trump’s statement, Brazil, Colombia and Canada also recognized Guaido as Venezuela’s legitimate leader, as did Peru and Chile.
Venezuela is not a democracy; it is a corrupt, inept regime, not a socialist democracy. I support socialism, but Venezuela just uses their oil to buy poor and ignorant voters. The level of criminality and corruption that brews from this type of system is beyond imagination. Only after having heard from Venezuelans themselves can we have a sense of what it is really like.
Having said this, I don't support the opposition, which will just be a US puppet like you said. Many countries have recognized the opposition leader as the president of Venezuela. I think I know where this is going; this has happened before in Nicaragua in the 80's. Another civil war funded by the US.
I don't understand why some people have to support a criminal system, just because the alternative is an imperialist brutal system. Both systems are corrupt and undemocratic. There is no need to support neither side.
Socialism in Venezuela has been a disaster.
Socialism has failed everywhere its tried. Venezuela is in turmoil on all fronts. The economy, death toll from gov. killing protestors, and more than 3 million have left with what they could carry.
All Americans in the country have been told to get out.

My point is intervention will make it worse, and DC knows that.
And they are technically a democracy even if it’s not a functioning one.
But again, I’ve never been a supporter of Maduro or Chavez.

yeah, it does look bad. it is probably going to have to get much worse before it can get better.

Thanks for your clarification, but they are many people who support Venezuela just because Venezuela strongly opposes imperialist US.
I would like to clarify a couple of definitions for other readers:
-Social Democracy: This would be fully democratic/capitalist countries, with heavy social programs. Ex. Scandinavian countries.
-"Democratic" Socialism: This is Marxist ideas and the examples in Latin America are Cuba and Venezuela.
I support the first with a few changes, I despise the second just as most people here. But I wanted to point out the difference, because people confuses the two.

Non-Marxist socialism has been around for hundreds of year, and I think is better overall than social-democracies.
But yes, democratic socialism as we know it tends to lead to a corrupt central government.
