How low have we sunk, as 'Americans'?

I thought is was all about being an 'American'
Not being a Republican
Not being a Democrat
But being an 'American'

'I Pledge Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all'.

We all sit in the comfort of our homes, and spew
" I know you are, but, what am I"
...childish rhetoric at each other, which amounts to a hill of beans, that does not change anyone or anything.

Both parties, in my eyes, are at fault for this 'Shut Down', BOTH!!!
They just need to take 'All Garbage' off the table, and vote for a 'General Budget', to get the United States
back in operation. Work out the 'Garbage' later.

My Prayers for all who are affected by this 'Shut Down'.
Especially for the Federal Employees, who are trying to build their lives by Serving Our Country.

We all have our own opinions, that is fine and dandy to me.
Sometimes, it is better to keep them to ourselves, or if compelled to, voice it to someone that can do
something about it, like the people who were voted for to do this job.

If that is the case, then why do Democrats side with illegal aliens over American citizens?

Are Democrats traitors?

You've just described what the Democrats having been trying to do. Yes, now you are going to say I'm being partisan but it's reality. As soon as Nancy Pelosi took over as Speaker, she had the House vote on CRs to reopen government. Of course they excluded the funding for the wall because this is in dispute but it would have reopened government while allowing for continuing negotiations without hurting the government workers. Democrats in the Senate have been trying to get a vote and until today, McConnell wouldn't even allow that - despite the fact that what the House approved was exactly what the Senate approved 100 to 0 in December.

Unless you think the Democrats should just give into Trump's demands and rubber stamp whatever he wants, I fail to see how they are to blame here. What else do you suggest they do that would change the current situation?

I'm sorry, because I know your post is well-intentioned, but I think that you have a false equivalency and that your own views are skewed.

I'd be very interested in an overall history of shut-downs, but as far as I know, they mostly seem to be perpetrated by Republicans, starting with Newt Gingrich, and usually used in a bullying kind of way. Only Trump was announcing that he was pleased to be responsible for the shutdown - and it's particularly grating because, unless most other presidents who divest, he is continuing to make big bucks while others wait in vain for a paycheck.

We may all indulge in some childish rhetoric, but it appears to me that the Democrats tend to be the one marshaling more facts, while the Republicans are the ones who discount everything by claiming that all traditionally respectable sources are "fake."

And this is, of course, an internet forum - not a place where people are likely to keep opinions to themselves. I completely agree that it should be about being an American. That is exactly why I find Trump so upsetting - because he is trashing all traditional American norms of the presidency. But his supporters seem to take pleasure in that.

Pelosi already told Trump there is no negotiations for the wall even if government is open.

It's her way or the highway. Sad.

As opposed to Trump's way or the highway? Sad.

And Pelosi has said she will negotiate for border security that will work for the 21st century. Just not a useless wall
