I'm with you. I would favor a Japan-style virtual total ban on guns, other than for police and military.

Not quite 1/17th as much as you could buy with all the Americans Murdered by guns. So I guess if you want a calculator, you could plug in a multiplier of 0.0588x

(Not saying we should ban guns, just answering your question with some objective data.)

Worthless is not the same as unquantifiable. Out of curiosity, what dollar value do you put on a human life?

Do you want your insurance company to use that valuation? I could see it now: "Massive stroke, gonna cost $74k in the first week. Let's just total it and send their spouse a check." Good plan....

Median wrongful death payout is 2.2 million. So for 2,000 people thats about 4.4 Billion.

I know what you're thinking....A wall! 4.4 Billion honestly wouldn't even pay for the maintenance on a full wall, let alone building it. Keep in mind though-the wall wouldn't be 100% effective. 1/2 of them are visa overstays. So the wall would only address the other half.

The right wing Cato institute has a good discussion of effectiveness and cost here:
https://www.cato.org/publications/co...wall-wont-work

Bottom line? 4.4 billion for 2,000 deaths, and no its not Wall money. Thats even before we address the value we often get from them working here.
