35 is good. Still young enough to not health issues, and just old enough to have possibly some experience. Although there are some people who would never make viable candidates regardless of age.
To whoever said something about an age cap, I agree. 75 to -start- a leadership level job is too old. A combination of age related mental deterioration, physical health issues and, just someone keeling over from their batteries running out makes a poor candidate for leadership.
Even at the minimum of 35, no president has been elected in his 30s. For many, subconsciously, 40-something is the bare minimum. Roosevelt was 42, the youngest to date. 20-somethings really don't stand a chance, and this is coming from someone in their very late 20s.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, maybe there should be a max age. At 70-something, you're a senior-citizen, and just as a 25-year old typically lacks wisdom, the elderly have a greater likelihood of becoming senile. Also, from a marketing perspective, it's much harder for you to relate to someone who is two generations or more your junior. 35-40 represents a middle ground.
The constitution says 35, personally I think it should be 40. The emotionalism and irrational leftism of the millennial generation is proof of their immaturity and it supports the constitutional age limit being at least as high as it is.. The boomers grew out of it hopefully they will too. Anyone who needs a visual on why we don’t want a president under 35 only needs to watch a video of that nit wit AOC and you will quickly see why the founding fathers restricted the presidency to those over 35.
One thing the founding fathers did not envision is people 70 plus, even close to 80 who would want to be president. I see the potential for real problems if Biden or Sanders are elected (other than their policies I disagree with) because of their age. Trump is too old for a second term IMO too. I am not comfortable with a senior citizen president. It would be worth considering a constitutional amendment to prevent anyone from being over 75 at the time of their election. This nation should never have to endure an 80 year old President.
The president should be a middle aged person. An age range of 45-60 is a good standard for voters to consider. Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio......these men are of presidential age.
35 seems a bit young to me. I'd say make it 45 and also throw some upper limit on the high end. Maybe 75 or 80.
