Immigrate legally and you won't have to worry about being separated from your children. Much unlike what these "asylum seekers" would like to believe, the United States isn't a lawless nation that allows you to do whatever you want to do. The parents are the ones to blame in this. They should follow the law rather than breaking it. These illegal immigrants are like spoiled children. They think they should get whatever they desire regardless of what the rules are.

A lot of it is our government's fault for being such a soft touch and allowing ourselves to be taken advantage of for far too long. Time to take a stand and say no more of this nonsense while we still have a country.

Why are so many asylum seekers still separated from their children?

Why classify the ILLEGAL ALIENS as 'asylum seekers'? They were offered asylum in Mexico but they declined; proving they don't want asylum, they want to ILLEGALLY enter the United States and cash in on all of the freebies.

We welcome immigrants who enter our country LEGALLY!

They aren't. OP appeared to be talking initially about children separated earlier who still had not been reunited with parents. She mentioned the absence of the plan to reunite them, which probably referred to the DHS system not being set up to maintain the needed records.

There was some article ... won't try find it ... saying about 80 children have been separated since Trump signed the EO.

It was due to criminality (not the entry but other charges) among parents ... hospitalizations ... factors not recorded or rather available to the reporter.

The previous pattern had been for mainly single men to cross the border - which is not easily accomplished - often by paying coyote fees. That money was not easy to come by for them. Ironically, that the journey is now potentially free (no fees for multiple family members) and arguably safer is what encouraged more families to come with their children.
The number of unaccompanied minors in detentions centers is quite high. To me this indicated many children coming across the border already separated from their parents.

They don't really fall under the thread title ... but like you say are unaccompanied from the outset. A subset of the single males with probably some girls has been some under 18 - and thus technically minors - have for years made the journey on their own.

Some are on their way to join parents already in the United States; others may leave home out of fear or to earn money to send to families back home.

There was an upsurge in their numbers in 2014 ... The Obama administration started a refugee program that Trump may have shut down (???) aimed at the ones with parents in the US ... some may well have seen the opportunity to join a caravan, which are arguably safer than trying to go the coyote route.

A few pages back there was a motherjones article that described what conditions are like in some Central American places ... I kinda knew but still was shocked.

Spare me the bleeding heart reaction...

If illegal alien parents are being separated from their illegal alien children they have no one to blame but themselves. Again must you be reminded that Obama did the exact same thing...so nothing new here but the typical hate Trump agenda.

If you don't want to lose your children don't cross the border, how simple is that, and you can live with your children and be happy somewhere on the south of the US border. I could care less!

But most sensible Americans know that is not the real reason illegal alien parents are willing to be separated from their children...they know they can get a free pass into the US with full benefits/freebees from the bleeding hearts if they bring their children.
