He won Wisconsin and Michigan by less than 1 percentage point, came close to winning Minnesota and only lost it by 1.5 percent, won Pennsylvania (Rust Belt state) by 1 percent, and carried Iowa and Ohio by double digits. Do you think voters in those states will come home for Trump, or will they ditch him? Trump pretty much needs at least two of those states to get over 270 electoral votes. He can win Pennsylvania without Wisconsin and Michigan, but if a Democrat wins PA, he needs to carry either Wisconsin or Michigan to win.

A big part of it is what type of critter will the Dems loft up as their nominee? Some far left nutjob of the ilk that seems to be oozing their way to the surface at the moment?

Then yes, Trump could very well win those states.

It will all come down to "IF" the Dems can put up a candidate that is not a Loony Lefty they found in the weeds out in far Left field. If they can then they might just hit a home run but so far the clown car is getting pretty packed with the Bozos that have stepped forward.

All this talk of Trumps base abandoning him because of the wall issue, the tax refunds not being as big... etc etc.. it is going to take someone really amazing for them to jump off the Trump train.

Seriously! And to think about how the left has demonized straight male whites and conservative white women since the election, they're going to have to freaking GROVEL the Midwest voter to win them back.

He should be indicted by then and if he is not, the USA has officially become a banana republic.

I would be extremely surprised if Trump wins the Rustbelt and Midwest again. In 2016, Trump promised the world to people who were underemployed or unemployed. As of February 2019, nothing has changed for these people. Yes, there has been a steady increase in employment which continued after the Obama administration started the ball rolling, but the return to a middle class standard of living just has not happened. The Midwest was looking for a messiah to get them back to the middle class. So far, Trump has been a dud.

I think he will win the Midwest again but not the rust belt. Only reason why he won the rust belt was because Hillary never campaigned there and took them for granted. I highly doubt the next candidate will make the same mistake.

Obama had 8 years and he didn't do it....Trump only has 2 years and he has done more in taking on the status quo and bad trade deals than Clinton/ Bush /Obama have done in 24 years.

what is the message from the Democrats to counter Trump and bring back jobs in the rustbelt? 70% tax rates? a green deal that will kill middle-class jobs?

everything that the current democrat party is far from open borders that keep wages down and for globalism is counterproductive for the rustbelt.

Even if the Democrats nominate Biden, he has a long record of screwing with the rustbelt since the 80's.
