I think you're dead on with both points.

Trump welcomes any distraction from the 20+ investigations into him, his campaign, and his family. Regardless of how bad it makes him look, I think he'd rather get blamed for a second shutdown than to have the country focusing on how his son might be indicted soon

And it definitely strokes his ego, feeling like he has the power to control America. Fragile, insecure people like Trump get off on feeling like they have power, it makes small men feel big.

What did you people *think* would happen when you elected an aggressively ignorant senile coke-head to the white house? Did you think we'd just roll over because this guy is loud and makes big promises?

Tinyhands will get his vanity project when MEXICO sends him a check.

U.S. Unauthorized Immigration Total Lowest in a Decade | Pew Research Center

The wall isn't for visa over stayers, duh. It's for the border jumpers whom 30,000 are still trying to enter our country illegally ever single month! What good is a so-called reduction with that many still trying to get in every month? The visa over stayers will just have to be dealt with in a different way so stop deflecting with them when that isn't the subject at hand.

Yup he told Fox News that same thing on the phone live on live Tv.

Head fake. Both sides testing what they can get away with. In the end, they will agree and Trump will get only what he was offered in the first place for a wall, but there will be quite a bit more money for other border security needs. Will it be enough for the right wing talk show hosts that run the country? We shall see.

As for Mexico paying for the wall how many times do I have to post the link of Trump's plan to make them do that? He never, ever said they'd write a check for it but pay for it indirectly.

I've answered it multiple times.

The "wall" approved in 2006/2007 has been built, for all intents and purposes. Something like 95%+ complete.

Now it's your turn. What do those sections of "wall" have to do with what Trump is asking for?
