4% of their economy, at its peak, was not much of a crutch.

LEGOs, Carlsberg Beer, Tivoli, Tuborg Beer, Furnture, etc.

Denmark ain't no perfect place out of Star Trek but it's a far cry from Gabon.

In some respects they are and in some they aren't. Denmark is not a true socialist nation and there population is a hell of a lot smaller. Did you even read the article?
