I am a boomer. I am still over 10 years away from collecting Social Security (partial at 67 - full at 70 thanks congress for moving the goal posts)... almost 10 away from Medicare. I didn't get a vote or any say what-so-ever about either. I started paying at sixteen with my first job years ago paying in.... Believe me, I wouldn't have voted for it then and I won't vote for socialist policies now. Funny how that works huh? Not all "Boomers" fall into your ideal's of boomers.......Ain't no government check here........

They've benefitted mightily from our system- which they largely control. Far as I'm concerned, they can pay for it too.

Disagree with me? Better go buy another politician
I dont disagree in that I think both are good programs. Just pointing out that you cant admonish them for accepting socialism when it benefits them, because it was forced on them when it was time to contribute. Especially when they, personally would have benefited more without it. They are just trying to salvage some kind of return on their investment.

Heck, some of my generation were the "hippies" of the 60s and 70s. Woodstockers, etc. We got older, went to work, paid taxes, got kicked in the teeth by life a few times. And grew the F up.

Today's kids are no different. There is an old saying-"If you're not liberal at 16, you have no heart. If you're not conservative by 30, you have no brain". Some truth to that. The naivety of youth always gets smacked in the face by reality.

If there is anyone to blame-it is the older generation-that raised the younger generations, and demanded and expected so little. It put these kids years behind in terms of learning about life. Catering to their every whim, buying them everything they desired, instilling no discipline or sense of responsibility. They will learn-the same as we all did-but instead of maturing to some extent in their teens, it's now in their 20s.
Yeah, you make a plea to stop the bashing & then you do that very thing at the end. Whatever.

My mother-in-law is a Boomer and a great human being.

I dunno why mothers-in-law get such a bad rap. She's a lot like my wife- and I love my wife.

So work to get the system changed. The payout (return on investment) on social security is a joke. We are forced to pay in 15.3% of our income every day we work for a living (up to max). If that money was in a private retirement account (IRA/401K) that had a rate of return equal to just the DOW, everyone would retire a rich person. Instead the government raids that investment, spends it to buy votes, and pays a trivial return-and most contributors never get back what they paid in.

Our generation failed to fix that and DEMAND that a large portion of SS be privatized and not in the hands of the government. We failed to demand that the fraud of the "disability" portion be addressed. We allowed our "retirement" to be spent on everything except what it should have been for.

Don't make the same mistake-demand that control of your SS investment be taken from the government, demand that individual accounts (like a 401k) be set up in YOUR name and that the system be fixed. Don't let the liars in DC spend your future.
