There's a very good reason we can't do that: there would be times of the year where it would be dark at 8:00 a.m. A disaster for kids walking to school.

I know. But people want to abolish Daylight Saving Time as well. There are good reasons why we use both: We use Standard Time so sunrises aren't 9:00AM in Winter, and we use Daylight Saving Time so the sun doesn't come up at 4:00AM in Summer, and so we can make better use of the evening.
