My relative works in the Bay Area. Tell him where he can find a modest size house for $440K in the Bay Area. If would wanted to move to the country, he might as well move to Needles, Ca.

The Bay Area is the most expensive part of the state. You can still get houses for $440k or less in some LA and San Diego suburbs, and you can definitely buy for less than that in Sacramento or Fresno. You don't have to move to the desert to get those prices

Florida is the 3rd most populous state followed by NY. Florida overtook NY in 2014 for the 3rd spot.

A significant number of my clients are from NY....not just upstate. There are a lot of reasons for them to leave but I don't understand why they want to try and make NC a "failed" state like NY! I left the north a long time ago to get away from all that crap!

Maduro will wind up cowering in a hole just like Saddam Hussein.

What does Cuomo and Maduro both have in common? They both lost Millions of former taxpayers to Florida!
Detroit metro is actually doing fine- and even the city itself is on the upswing. Its the rural areas of Michigan that are hallowing out. Similarly New York is losing population is the upstate. The city is so desirable cost of living has become prohibitive. This is why drawing that Amazon HQ would have been such a coup- a clean employer, more jobs vs residential, and workers who could actually afford to live in the immediate area. One high paid person in NYC can cover two salaries in an outer Buffalo suburb or the rural areas in the middle of the state in terms of taxes. This attrition form the upstate is also why the state keeps skewing more liberal. Its likely any lost US House seat will come at the expense of a Republican district.

^^^Gotta back FInn on this one. The myth of CA being bankrupt is just that. They have a lot of debt but they also have a lot of income.

No state is anywhere near Illinois in terms of bad financial condition.

The claim was that a small house in California costs $1 million, and I corrected that piece of fake news.

This is nothing new but not due to socialists but rather high property taxation. The elderly of NY long moved off to the Carolinas or Flordia to avoid property taxes.
