More people are feeling optimistic about their own finances, according to Gallup.

In a recent poll, nearly 7 out of 10 participants said they expected to be "better off" financially by this time next year. The company surveyed 1,017 U.S. adults by phone in January.

This level of optimism hasn't been seen in 16 years, according to Gallup. Half of respondents say they are in better financial shape than a year ago.

It is unfortunate that it appears an issue so straightforward can still be divided by partisanship (you're either better off or your not...they are simply numbers). And although I agree that the new tax plan was harsh to the Upper Middle Class and above (as per Pew, the Middle Class is defined by income as between $40,500 and $122k), those solidly in the midrange of these numbers will clearly do better). It's rare that the government puts more money in people's pocketbooks, but that's exactly what this plan did. Not to mention, unemployment levels are down across the board.

As much as the naysayers want to scream, not everything is as bad as they claim.
Economy didn't do much for my district which had been a Republican stronghold for over 30 years.

Neither did the fact the Republican candidate pledged her total allegiance to Trump.

His core supporters will vote for him. I think he has lost most of the independents and the democrats who voted for him.

This right here.

Throw some crazy abolish private health insurance, bullet train across the ocean, take care of those not willing to work socialist out there and you'll get another 4 years of Trump, easily.

It looks more and more like that's what they are going to do, they just don't learn.

Some temporary glitches in the stock market may be knee-jerk reactions to something a President does; but in general business continues IN SPITE of our petty political meanderings.

Only fools try to make a case that Trump is responsible for our current economy, the same fools that argued that Bush or Obama had any effect on the economy and business overall. These arguments are simply a political expedience.
I can understand your comments.

BTW...there was a technical economics paper that said the Bush tax cuts lead to the greatest economic boom in history. Unfortunately, the boom happened in CHINA. I am curious as to why there hasn’t been more discussion about this in the mainstream media.

Trump’s tax cut of the corporate tax rate...isn’t that much different than Obama’s proposal of 25%. I really doh’t think that had much to do with the Trump economic boom. I do think his insistence on returning overseas corporate monies to the US was significant.

What is different is the reduction in government regulations. Nobody is really looking at that. There are economic benefits to the economy and social and ecological costs to society and the environment.

My personal opinion, is that is what caused the Trump’s economic boom. However, nobody has really looked at the social and ecological costs of the regulations.

We have very few people in the media that even understand basic economics. So that analysis for the average voter isn’t going to happen anytime soon.

There is little difference between what Putin wants and what democrats offer. On the honesty scale they are well balanced. They have the same ideology. They will build nothing until they destroy everything. Then there will be no one willing to build anything, especial not for free.

Way too son to start giving to 2020 election to anyone. Bush 41 looked unbeatable at this point in his first term. And I think most of us realize the economy can be very fickle. There is no telling what it looks like in six months, much less November, 2020.

You guys on the right are giving her too much credit and are obsessed with her in a very weird way.

She doesn't rule the Dem party but her rhetoric has you guys constantly talking about her.

So many desperate comments that were a dime a dozen the night before the last election. Inflation has been tame. Unemployment rate is still down a point since he took over. Business optimism is high. And yet, the same crowd thinks people should believe them when they were so wrong in 2016. The same crowd spouting off the same silly comments I see in this thread. The same crowd that point to the same sources that told them they would be right last time.

Tell someone that was out of work that is now gainfully employed how terrible things are and they will laugh at you (and there are plenty more of those). Tell someone that's not in those high COL Democratic states who now is able to keep more of their money do to a new tax law how terrible things are.

I understand many of you live in an echo chamber and believe everything the press tells you. But we all know how the press raved about Trump prior to the last election (note sarcasm) and still, what happened? I wouldn't get too caught up in the full court press the media has put on Trump since being elected (they're a bit jaded these days). I think most people knew what they were going to get starting in 2016 (many of us don't pay attention to it...just like many didn't pay attention in 2004 when Bush was reelected and I could rewind to the comments that were made back then and how posters said he could never win).

Remember, according to this group, the world was supposed to end. The market was going to crash. What happened? Trump was going to be impeached at least two years ago. What happened?

Do continue on with the character assassination and bashing. It actually makes me laugh because it's apparent most of the people doing it are simply bitter and broken over an election that has long been over.

I suspect if Trump does win, those naysayers will need more than therapy dogs this time. And I would stay away from tall buildings.

Plus, as long as old trump has Putin in his hip pocket, and our electoral system is so easy to manipulate, the old, inept geezer could be selected again. What a tragedy that would be for our country and the world.

Don't we as Americans have ANY say in our election of commander in chief and president?

"They," are waking up.

The period from October through January has been tragic for the markets. I am in negative territory for the last 12 months as a result. Economists provide a lot of talk about how well the economy is but personal experience tells me my investments are down, the economy took a big hit from the shutdown, retail sales were sharply down in December, more folks are behind on their car loans, there has been zero progress resolving the trade deficit with China, our national debt continues to sky rocket, and trump’s tax cut did nothing to stimulate the economy. Believe what you want. I see a recession ahead. Trump in 2020? It is possible. Most voters are ignorant, uninformed and vote based on emotion. Unfortunately, right now the democrats running are all too far left of center to win. If the party cannot get it’s *#@$ together and nominate someone more moderate I think trump does have a shot at 2020. A very sad prospect.
