A new emoji expected to be released in March has some women on the Island looking forward to a new means of communicating about their periods online.

"How we design things is really important. The fact that an emoji is designed that reinforces women's experiences — it does help to break through some of that stigma," said Jillian Kilfoil, executive director at Women's Network P.E.I.
LOL sorry ladies, but this is going to backfire BIG TIME!

How so? There is no big plan here. It's just an emoji, which is used to communicate without words.

Backfire? Like, how? Or why? Or what? It’s an emoji, it’s not exactly deep.

Yeh... Not sure an emoji to spark open conversation about a natural function of the body can backfire...

If you're just trying to make a point about how people will use the emoji for making jokes, then YEAH, duh.

So what?

Obviously the wimmenz will get too cozy using the red drop emoji, which means chhaupadi will need to be immediately enacted as a security measure.

It's called the coarsening of culture. There is a poop emoji, a vomit emoji and various sex emojis. Haven't seen a nose picking emoji yet but give it time.

By being used far more to make jokes than its intended purpose. In what context would women really use it anyway?
