Saying that proven false reports of this type invalidate all stories of that kind of act is about as credible as saying "Whites in Mississippi made up stories about black men whistling at white women (Emmitt Till, anyone) invalidates all such stories of black men assaulting white women.
It's pretty simple, though. Some hate crimes happen. Some people lie and claim a hate crime was committed against them. Both should be condemned.
People all over the internet are trying to excuse the Jussie Smollett situation by saying, basically, "well real hate crimes do happen and that's bad, all he was doing was showing that, his case shows that hate against blacks and gays is still alive." No, all he was doing was creating a fake story, wasting cops' time and money, and creating more political and probably racial divisiveness that may actually lead to more real hate crimes because doing what he likely did (still officially unconfirmed it was made up but looks bad for him) will cause extremists on both sides of the political spectrum to have even more anger at one another.
They should be arrested, charged, do time and billed for the police hours spent on their false report. There uses to be a database of hoax crimes. Can't connect to it now.

"Damn it, people are too tolerant. No one in my neighborhood hates me for being black/gay/Muslim/transgender/etc. What do I have to do to get my ass kicked around here, pay someone?"
[quote=somebodyfromnc;54461933]Maybe it has changed in recent years, but I remember when making a false police report was a pretty serious deal.[/QUOTE/}
Almost every claim of a hate crime is a hoax. But the news media, especially CNN, just fall for it hook, line and sinker. They are so biased that they are easy to fool.
According to FBI, there were 7,106 reported hate crimes in 2017. Crimes include murder, vandalism,rape, robbery and assault. How many of the 7,106 incidents involving 8,493 people are you familiar with?
Your remark that “almost every hate crime is a hoax” is an opinion.

Opinions are not facts.
Strange how the ones promoted by the msm usually turn out fake. Perhaps they promote the ones citing Trump, and those tend to be fake? Or the vics dont match desired narrative?
Reddit and twitter: "ok but for every one fake one, there are 100 real hate crimes perpetuated against minorities, so..."
Prove it.
