Yeah, but it's due to blow up any day now (see Yellowstone supervolcano). Better get rid of it while we can.
When that blows, it will be a severe blow to Idaho and Montana, as well, and the fallout will have severe consequences for all states down wind (the Jet Stream blows East and South, y'know). The ash from Mt. St. Helens went all the way to the Dakotas, IIRC/
I have to wonder, do these petition signers really think that Canada actually WANTS Montana, and is willing to pay one trillion dollars (USD or CD?) for it?
If it did happen, I would have to move to Wyoming (again). I don't want to be a Canadian.
I did some work on a house in the liberal city of Boulder some years back, was helping son #1 get his business off the ground. It was one of your liberal state politicians who screams global warming like he breaths. He lived in a 12,000 sq ft house with a 150000 BTU boiler that heats the driveway when it snows. In the garage were muscle cars, giant SUV’s and one Prius for him to drive when in public.
The liberals in Colorado were the worst I ever saw. The thing is, they don’t really believe in what they portray, they are just desperate for acceptance which makes them pathetic hypocrites. Minneapolis liberals are a close 2nd.

I'll put middle-aged mom's more diplomatic point bluntly.......
considering Canada has more land than the US currently most of winch is sparsley populated similar to Montana. I just don't see what Canada gets out of Montana other than getting on of the most beautiful states we have.
It would get control of the water. Think about that for a moment.
