Having one state be superior to another as far as voting rights and law making is a liberals wet dream.
The concept of the Senate was to mirror the House of Lords. Senators were appointed, not voted into office, until 1906. The idea was to have two individuals at the national level to represent the land mass of the US who were independent of national influence.
'Nuff said.
