Then they should read the complaint, and try to understand the laws which relate to it. For example in the state this is filed the responding party must be first given a request to publish a retraction, and they have 10 days in which to do so. This lawsuit did not meet that requirement, and on that alone would be thrown out.

Its a bunch of nonsense. Its going to get thrown out.

It really is. Still haven’t gotten an answer as to what the Post published to defame that high schooler.

What a ludicrous post. Why do you hate free speech?

Got news for you, the SCOTUS upheld the free speech rights of the Westboro Baptist Church 8-1, and they have speech way more disgusting than anything you are upset about.

Your idea is totally ludicrous and is DOA in the courts under the 1A.

Sounds to me like you want state controlled media that does nothing but lick the maniac's ******* all day. Move to a third world dictatorship if you want that.

Libel law concerning public figures is somewhat different (in the US) than for the public. Politicians and celebrities have a harder time bringing a libel suit and that is what I think Trump wants to change. For non-public figures it is not that hard to bring a libel suit - just show it was intentional, caused harm, and the person who libeled knew it to be false. This is what the Covington kid is doing against Wa Po.

Trump hates the Sullivan decision handed down by the Supreme Court which give the press a lot of latitude in what they can say about politicians. Sullivan is a two-edged sword - it protects the press against politically motivated attacks but it also enables blatant liars like Alex Jones and Infowars. It basically enables fake news as well as protecting real news which politicians want to claim is fake. It is tricky.

As to the Covington kid - if WaPo screwed up and engaged in poor journalism by publish rumors and unsubstantiated allegations, they probably should be brought to task on it. I like the Washington Post so hope they didn't screw up but I think in this day and age it is really important for the press to get their stories above reproach.

Sorry, OP, but you do not get to file a lawsuit because people think you're a fool and that hurt your little feelings. I believe you would call such people snowflakes, right?

The OP would be the first one sued in a class action if he/she got their way.
