What is wrong with wanting your country to be great? Why is that not patriotic? Why is the Left so self loathing?
That is some weird thought process.
Why not wear a hat with school colors and an American flag.
Oh wait -- because she doesn't think American flag is patriotic.
(That is the kind of thinking you seem to be applying -- anything to justify an attack).
This isn't about left or right -- this is about a rule at school, a student wanting to break it and claiming a false narrative to justify. It isn't about the MAGA -- it's about it not being school colors.
What a delightful young lady. The dress code is clear though, and the hat is not allowed. She should learn to pick her battles better. Although she did get the publicity she sought. I hope it doesn't backfire on her.

MAGA hats are more than just patriotism. Trump and his supporters pretty much seized control of the narrative of what the phrase "Make America Great Again" means. In this case, it's been turned from an innocent phrase into a political statement. Politics, like religion, certainly can be a very inflammatory subject. I'd certainly not disfavor banning the wearing of any political attire to a school. Teens very often are much more judgmental and hostile toward someone in "the other camp" than adults, so by banning political clothing, it helps to prevent fights (oh, btw, teens have less impulse control than adults, so adult standard often don't apply to high school students).
Thats pretty common, patriotism is rarely popular, convenient or easy by any means!
Thats kind of why we celebrate and honor people for doing things that are patriotic, they are risky, and not at all convenient or easy.
Look at what the patriots of the past faced...Boston Tea party, what they did was basically theft and destruction of property not their own, and only because they did not agree with the taxes on tea...but today, that event is celebrated and the men honored and praised.
Kind of weird that a teenager thinks that "make America great again" has anything to do with patriotism. Or that an individual who is mere months out of childhood thinks that America needs to be made "great again."
But regardless, rules are rules and she's being a precious snowflake.
I proved my point, here is yet another narcissist grandstanding about a school dress code policy ("look at me!").
She can wear her darned MAGA shirts all she wants, the hat is against policy.
I wish kids across America were more concerned about things like grades, respect for rules, a safe and friendly environment for all, than challenging dress codes.
There is not one legitimate reason to restrict hats/head gear or dress code. It is only to exert authority and enforce a social construct while attacking individualism.
I would argue schools ought to be more concerned with protecting faculty and students, and more worried about the quality of education they provide rather nonsense disciplinary codes that do nothing productive.
I agree. Teachers should keep their opinions to themselves.
That also.
Keep personal politics out of school. Period. Left or right. Student or teacher.
Schools should be neutral ground.
