I see quite a bit of American exceptionalism in this thread.
"But we're Americans! We're smarter and more advanced than the people of countries with failed policies and atrocities. We'll do it right!"
Hogwash. We're human and so are our politicians. We'll bugger things up, too.
No one is seriously saying "but we are americans we will do it right".
As I pointed out earlier, America is already partially socialist whether anyone is willing to admit it or not. Social security, public roads, insurance (private or public), hospitals, and even your local HOA are all socialist ideas to some degree.
No one is seriously suggesting we get rid of capitalism and make this country 100% socialist. That's just a strawman drawn up by right wing talking heads.
The problem with countries like Venezuela, China under Mao, etc. is that they were thinking in black and white and tried to do too much at one time. And these regimes tended to be hostile toward intellectuals. There is no better example than the Cambodian genocide where they killed off all the perceived intellectuals of their country. Doctors, lawyers, teachers, etc. were all killed off.
I would go as far as argue that the people who were in charge of these failed states never really wanted to create some kind of socialist paradise. They just wanted to be godheads. Hence, human lives were worthless to them.
Genetically modified rapeseed oil was designed to destroy the West. Unmodified rapeseed oil is NOT ALLOWED in the United States or Canada. (See Lorenzo's Oil)
Bernie Sanders once said breadlines are good -- I grew up in Communist China and I can tell you they're not
......The government controlled the distribution of essentials such as rice and cooking oil to every citizen through a rigid ration system, maintained through coupons. Those coupons were not for getting a discount – they were used to restrict the amount of essentials we were allowed to have on a monthly basis. Hunger was a constant feeling.
We were also constantly reminded that just because we had a coupon, it didn’t mean there were goods to buy in the store. It was a constant and exhausting endeavor to get our hands on the basics so that our family could survive.
That was why my parents often had to get up at three or four o’clock in the morning and stand in lines in front of two different grocery stores, waiting for a pound of sugar or flour. If they showed up late, they knew the only thing waiting for them would be empty shelves.
Yet, according to my parents, we were still lucky because we all survived. Their generation had to live through the worst famine in human history, the "Great Chinese Famine" from 1959 to 1961, which was caused by Chairman Mao's ruinous socialist policies....
did anyone mention Bernie is a millionaire and will never stand in the breadlines he wants us to stand in??
'Democratic' socialist is not a thing. It's a just a term used to Bernie can run under the Democratic party. They made a rule that if you are not a Democrat, you cannot run in the party.
There are those who are uninformed or misinformed who would romanticize socialism. They have no idea what the reality is and how much they'd hate it if they had to live it.
There is no choice in Socialism. If there were, none of those in Socialist countries would go hungry.
Are you pretending you didnt read the other lines of my post ?
the choices here were.
Bribing a corrupt regime so that you can get food(if you have enough money to do so)
or
standing in line for government issued bread.
Neither is a good choice. I don't want anyone else "issuing" me any food, for any reason or any cost. The first is at the cost of a bribe, the second is at the cost of freedom.
