Sure seem to be a lot of "I don't care, let them starve" posts on this thread. In the age of Trump the qualities of decency and humanity seem to have gotten buried.

If a component of the population is not fed or housed, it would lead to civil unrest.

The solution is to stop providing financial incentives for people to have kids when they cannot afford them, as the government ends up picking up the tab.

Offers of voluntary sterilization in exchange for $100K would save the tax payers trillions of dollars over time.

I havent seen anyone advocating for that. Maybe ramp down the hyperbole.

Easy. Have criteria that's free from bias. The example of the millionaire only points out a gap in the requirements. Assets have nothing to do with race, sex, sexual orientation, etc.

One example: "End welfare. Hunger is a great motivator for finding a job." (Post #22) And another: "If you are able bodied you shouldn't be eligible. I don't care if you worked in the last 25 months or not". (Post #53) And there are others not as blatant.

I will double my rents when that happens, I'm not taking the hit.

Food stamps should be temporary and require mandatory drug testing.

That's why when the dems win it will be with a big socialist like Bernie or Warren.
It is like they are asking for it. Maybe Trump did embolden them after all. But there are a lot of new younger voters now who are energized for something else.

The millionaire who was out to prove a point only showed that a rare condition whereby a person has assets but no income to speak of, could allow one to qualify for food stamps. And since then the rules have been tightened up. And with asset testing the amount of assets allowed is so meager that the elderly would have to impoverish themselves in order to get their small amount of assistance. I don't know how he got thousands unless he has dependents because an old person living alone gets only a very small benefit and the republicans want any retirement savings wiped out before they can even get that.

Because that mindset is so sickening, and I am independent, I hope Corey Booker becomes president. Not really, but almost.

Why? Both the Maxwell School (syracuse.edu) and PEW Research found that to be true. And the percentages were consistent.

I am not conflicted at all about it but I do believe people who should not be getting it do.

Though-out life innocent people are hurt because of others laziness and dishonesty. I voted no because there are people who truly need the help.

People who abuse it are taking from people who truly need the help. I guess in their minds they will justify their theft.
