I'm not sure why folks think this is a political issue.
Some Republicans think that the some 38 plans flying in the USA right now should be grounded.
It doesn't have to be a disaster for Boeing....stock is being impacted with them Not grounding anyways.
A well crafted statement (have we forgotten how some folks have the ability to use words wisely) stating Boeing is sure that there is nothing wrong with this model but for the comfort of their passengers and staff, they will ground the ones in use until confirmation of the cause of the latest craft.
I was going to post this but didn’t have time. For all of you who are saying the 737 has been around forever, etc., this redesign was significant enough to almost consider it a new aircraft.
And there's a problem right there, because Boeing apparently sold it as being interoperable with legacy 737s. A few US pilots unions were seriously angry that Boeing had changed the way the airplane worked without letting them know.
When hundreds of lives are on the line it's always better to err on the side of caution not on the side of being business friendly. There have been incidents that raise questions about the safety of these planes. It's not out of the realm of possibility there is a problem with the design or production somewhere.
Of course! Let public opinion make engineering decisions on aircraft! Sounds like the word-track anti-gunners use to try to shut down the system after a shooting. If it just saves one life, it's worth it!
There were a couple of people killed on the LA freeways yesterday. What about it?
How about you let qualified people make the decision.
I flew on a 777 a few years back. As I went to use the bathroom (14 hour flight), I noticed a piece of trim was loose and dangling. The trim was right next to an exit door. This was an Airbus.
What an idiot. Instead of getting on the phone and threatening retaliation to stop the attack on Boeing being lead by the Airbus-promoting Euros, he puts out a tweet about how hard it is to fly a plane these days. Of course, he can do it, he alone.

No one wants to get on one of these planes until there are some answers about why they are falling from the sky. Maybe it's an irrational fear, but it is a real concern. The FAA is protecting the stock market not people at this point.
The FAA issues the airworthiness certificate. They are the only ones that can ground the aircraft. And they don’t have a smoking gun yet.
If I had to guess, I suspect pilot training is inadequate for the aircraft.
