That's fine. Then don't move to a neighborhood with an HOA. Your CHOICE.
Just unfortunate that it seems all new neighbohroods all have an HOA.
HOA's are known for stories like them not letting someone fly a Marine corps flag in front of their house because people are offended. I wonder if they have the right to tell someone to remove a Confederate flag.
Actually, HOA boards lean towards authoritarianism and capitalism. Kind of like the current president.
Actually kind of like bored control freaks with nothing else to do. You find these people in all walks, both liberal and conservative. The one thing they all have in common is they want to be in control and all think that they know what's best. I have friends that live in gated communities with HOA's. You would never get me to move to one no matter how nice they might look.
I went to their version of a block party. Seemed ok. Then 2 of the board members who did not pay up for food or drink showed up. They felt it ok to help themselves. These are the same ones that told my friend any landscaping changes would need to first pass their approval. I mean hell, who wants to live in a place run like a communist freak show.
Or told him to weed his yard, or remove the non running car on blocks in the yard...
Love living in an HOA. Neighbors yards are kept up, no pink or purple houses, no cars parked off pavemement.
Maybe, or maybe they are control freaks who want to dominate their neighbors? I actually had a HOA board member for a friend. He like you loved his HOA. He wanted me to move there, talked about being neighbors etc. Then he said something that absolutely stopped me cold. You have nothing to worry about, you have a friend on the board. That comes with certain advantages.
Yeah I have nothing to worry about where I live now and I dont pay an association dues, don't have old farts or stray at home wives , who are bored out of their skulls inventing new rules or trying to find issues just so they can show who is in charge.
If you like HOA's fine. Most of us don't like people who don't pay our mortgages or bills dictating how we manage our property.
Do you know what I do if my neighbor's yard needs work? I go over and help them out.
You compare a car on blocks to a HOA blocking a Marine from flying the flag? Well it seems HOAs dont like Marines flying their flag either.
Why didn't you add DICTATORSHIP as a choice? This is what they are, after all.
From a president of an HOA? PLEASE
I'll paint my home the color I choose, not you. I will build additions, to code, as I see fit - not you. I will not pay for an HOA to determine what I can and cannot do to MY PROPERTY.
This is why ai will always live in an HOA neighborhood.
I've always thought they were a bunch of Nazis. My last house was in a million + neighborhood, no HOA, no problems. We downsized to a $400,000 + house and neighborhood, still no HOA, still no problems. Perhaps trailer parks need them, I don't know. Before you buy, look at your neighbors, that's my advice.
I went to visit some really cool unique homes last wknd. I suspect much of what I saw would not be allowed in most HOAs. That is a major problem for me, the generic nature of HOA communities beyond just keeping them up for the sake of property values.
I would have to take my chances at having a lousy neighbor before I could give up my ability to have the freedom to create a pond or fountain or a wildflower garden or put my friend's sculpture art in my garden. I wonder how much of what is in Better Homes and Gardens or Southern Living would not be allowed in many HOAs, probably plenty at least based on the HOA hoods know about.
