On most of the many scales available by independent org's/agencies, the U.S. with it's "constitution" doesn't even make it into the top 25 of countries whose citizens enjoy the most freedoms and liberties

So much for that vaunted "constitution" nonsense.
The Constitution is nonsense? We're definitely getting closer!

NZ's business, not ours.

Try addressing the adjective used rather than the noun and maybe we'll then be on the same page.

New Zealand did not ban assault weapons. Only 1 person banned these weapons.
It`s a public safety issue. Did we get to vote on whether our vehicles should be required to have seat belts?
If we were allowed to vote on whether assault weapons could be sold in this country it wouldn`t go well for you. You think?

Australia is pretty close to New Zealand and after their last mass shooting they implemented gun controls and whether it is coincident or not there has not been a mass shooting since.

Hard to fight against that.

From what I have read they don't suspect she'll have much opposition - -even from gun owners.

Different culture in New Zealand. There isn't the 2nd Amendment to add to the 'right to bear arms'.....

I am curious why NZ is not banning shotguns, as those were also used in the attack.

Don't look for logic or consistency, such bans are an emotional response

100% right. The only people in NZ giving up their AR-15 are the responsible ones nobody is concerned about. This move to ban is entirely illogical.

I don't even own a gun and even I think it's ridiculous.

Or just applying common sense, assault rifles serve no purpose in hunting or sports which is not being impeded.
