"President Trump on Thursday signed an executive order relating to free speech on college campuses."

Good now colleges won't get fed money if they are against free speech and won't let people who are invited to talk.

Potentially good news...

Subject to abuse dependent upon how it is worded.

IE
College Republicans at Berkely invite some right wing guy
vs
One random alt right guy inviting some klansman.
Clearly the college should deal with the first but how far down in size does the college have to go in funding specialist people with severely limited draw?

Good luck on enforcing that nonsense. I guess it could be done, but it would take a massive bureaucracy to do it.

How many clerks would it take to review ever college's program of speakers? Speakers lecture at colleges about every week someplace on campus in them all.

How many clerks would the colleges have to hire just to fill out the federal forms that will be needed to keep track of all the speaking going on? And how many lawyers will it take to argue the disputes that will arise? How many more judges will we have to hire just to hear those cases?

What will the standards of 'free speech' be? Who's going to create them? Somebody will have to. A lot of somebodies.

When I was young back in the 60s, there was a big liberal free speech movement going on. That was a time when there were a lot of old conservative rules on free speech that had been made official. Rules that made citizenship pledges mandatory for all speakers and garbage like that.

They were all written to limit differing viewpoints. The kids going to the schools were the ones that created the movement, mostly as a way to challenge the Vietnam war's legitimacy. There were the usual riots in the usual places, but the movement didn't last for very long; it didn't change the war, so the kids began doing other things to protest it that worked better.

So it goes. Now that it's something official, the swamp will grow and spread. Whoopee! A brand new bureaucracy ripe for plunder! Thanks, Prez. Good job for MAGA.

And because there's something to protest now suddenly, I'm sure the usual riots will break out in the usual places again sooner or later.

I have no problem with holding back federal funds when colleges sensor speakers. That being said, I found it funny when I looked at WMAR's website ( a news station out of Baltimore) this morning. Their headline on their home page reads, "Trump signs executive order threatening aid to colleges". Sounds pretty sinister! It isn't until you click on the story link that you get the full headline, "Trump signs executive order threatening aid to colleges if speakers silenced".

There is no way that you can convince me that the media isn't actively working against Pres. Trump.

Just because they are doesn't make this any less of a waste of time.

I thought free speech on college campuses only pertained to regurgitating any left-leaning Groupthink, talking point, social agenda, etc? Maybe the next tuition increase will cover the expansion of more safe spaces for snowflakes now that conservative ideas on college campuses can be discussed without being banned.

Trump and his govt shouldn't meddle in college campuses, in fact they should completely remove their influence along with our money. He is just setting a precedent and making it easier for the next lunatic.

Yup.
And the next lunatic could come from the left. Neither side of us is beyond hiring a lunatic from time to time. It's part of the American way.
