Default Negative thinking

Please take just a moment and read the title of all the threads posted today..

Ok, what do they all have in common?

They are all negative. With all the great things going on in America and elsewhere why do we cling to the negatives? Does it make you feel better about your life complaining about someone elses? Does placing anger, frustration and blame on someone or something else make you feel better about yourself?

It's odd. The media reports mostly the negatives but that's because it gives them higher ratings. The papers report the negatives because they sell more papers that way.

But why, when none of us have any financial stake on a internet forum, still only discuss the negatives.

I created a post earlier about how the middle class is making more money, not less, and that is why it is shrinking. Kind of an upbeat article that things aren't that bad. And yet, all my responses were that the world is ending and I am wrong and everyone is poor and the govt is to blame.

I just think things aren't that bad and a lot of good things happening aren't being reported.. and the fact that they aren't even being reported on internet forums makes me wonder if the liberal media has truly brainwashed us.

I've started a few threads concerning medical and technological advances, and they are generally either ignored or receive negative feedback.

It is the nature of these types of discussion forums. Generally, participation is more evident from folks unhappy with current direction of an issue, or detecting favoritism of some groups. It provides a means to get the other perspectives out for discussion.

Well, I'm waiting for a list of all the great things going on in America.

The media SHOULD be reporting facts...if they're negative...well, then they're negative.

And it depends on what you mean by "media". I find that TV newscasts especially local ones ONLY present light fluff, and they make an effort to only report positive news because that's what incurious lazy people want.

AND it may be that there isn't a lot of "good stuff" happening in the U.S. right now. People who can't see the problems, who "coccoon" themselves in their own tight confined little world, will never see the reality of what's happening around them. Typical conservative/Republican view "If I'm OK, everything is fine and screw everybody else".

Inflation is still low
People in America aren't starving
People in America are clothed
People in America have roofs over their heads
More people leave their countries to come to America than any other country
Quality of life is excellent
Very very few human rights violations
Besides the housing market and oil prices economy is doing well
Haven't had a terrorist attack in 7 years despite having a very porous border

gloom and doomers, you're worrying yourself to an early death.

Some wages have not adjusted to inflation for many years.

People may not be starving and have clothes although many ARE hungry, food shelf charities are hard pressed to keep up with the demand....now...at what point will you object or voice concern?...WHEN America HAS starving people...WHEN America IS a copy of a third world country?

Quality of WHOSE life is excellent? YOURS???? Well, good for you but I hate to break the news but the whole world isn't YOU.

A roof over their heads..yup , and some are cardboard...there ARE working poor who are homeless WITH jobs....in America.

"Besides the housing market and oil prices economy is doing well"
Ya, except for those two teeny tiny little items everything is just peachy!

""Haven't had a terrorist attack in 7 years despite having a very porous border""

And let's just ignore the 4, 000 Americans killed, the thousands maimed in Iraq!???? Oh, that's right Y O U didn't suffer so everything is beautiful!!!

I am not worrying myself to death but DO care about someone besides myself...you should try it...

Victims love you. You and the other liberals love victims. Victims keep the liberals in power. Victims stay victims because it's easy. The homeless problem is a mentally and physically challenged problem. They need more hospitals and treatment centers for these people. Able bodied people can find work all over the place. The rest of your gloom and doom rant is a waste of time to reply to. Get over the gloom and doom media and liberal rhetoric and go out and acheive. There is an American dream out there waiting for anyone who wants it, but the people with your "I'm a victim" mindset are already defeated. It's really sad.

Inflation, as calculated in the pre-Clinton era, is close to 11%. The other things you mention are true, but there's nothing wrong with looking at the situation to find out how to make it better.

I was watching TV the other day and congress was doing there thing on questionig( really making speaaches) the oil company executives. At the sam time I was on the internet and read a post on gas peices in different parts of the world. The conclusion I drew was that the excutives in the uS are doing a good job because prices in the US wre far lower thasn any coutry listed. maybe even a raise is in order.I also look around me and see a too well fed society but realise that there are peole who are hungary. But the real problem it seems is that they don't have the power to get much relief from government programs because they live in rural areas and the urban area get most of the benefits.80% to the 20% in urban areas and 20% to the 80% of poor in rural areas. That is now the politics of government programs is setup because of political clout.Likie the above post it seems most think of these things in terms of politics and You need to care like me.

You really can't see or hear anything but yourself , can you?? I never said Iwas a victim. Where did you read that? Show me.

I live what I consider a good life...it doesn't blind me to the needs/misfortunes of others nor to the problems in this country. To ignore them is to exacerbate them. To be uninvolved, uncaring about your fellow citizens is anti-American and un-patriotic. It's still called the UNITED States.

Have you ever tried caring about anyone but yourself? I find connecting with other human beings is a good thing.

OBTW, using the word "sad" or phrases like "it's really sad" always proves the poster has nothing to say.

I didn’t believe in the "the American Dream" before I spent a year in 'Nam. I haven't believed in much ever since. I am tired of hearing about "Go forth and multiply yourself and your fortune". IMHO that is just a fool’s game and another way to make the rich richer. Don't bother. I suggest getting as much education you need to get a decent paying not too obnoxious job and enjoying life a best you can. Striving just leads to frustration and stress created illness. Living long is prospering.
