Now if they could only convince the US to go back into the Paris Agreement, Just let that sink in, an oil company in agreement with the climate accord but not our own government.

Quote:
London (CNN Business)Royal Dutch Shell says it's quitting a major US oil lobby because it disagrees with the group's policies on climate change.

The energy company said Tuesday that it would not renew its membership in the American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers lobby next year because of "material misalignment."
Shell (RDSA) CEO Ben Van Beurden wrote in a report that it was important to ensure "that the industry associations we belong to do not undermine our support for the Paris Agreement."
Almost every country has signed up to the 2015 Paris Agreement, pledging to limit the rise temperatures to well below two degrees Celsius. The United States decided to withdraw from the agreement in 2017.

I crack up whenever the Paris Agreement is referenced, since nobody actually knows what the signatories have "pledged" and if they did, they'd never be dumb enough to trot it out like something that is binding, verifiable or in any other way meaningful.

As an example of pure political theater, it's as close to perfect as anything over the last 100 years, second only to UN pronouncements about Israel.

Big Oil created the denialist movement, now some feel it has gotten away from them and taken on a mythos of its own.

Shell is a European company, which may have something to do with this. Their home country is the Netherlands, and the people of the low countries have serious legitimate concerns about the onset of climate change.

They just can not go along with that American charade for the sake of profits any longer ... good for them.

Don't be so cynical.

Governmental agencies and corporations always have the best interest of the people at heart. Their motives are sterling.

Exactly. The oil industry created the denialist beast. Some in the oil industry are honest enough to acknowledge the consequences. Denialists are too ignorant to realize they have been mislead and used as fools by the by oil industry. They bought into their junk science hook, line and sinker.

I suspect that some oil industry executives have come to the realization that their kids will live on this sick planet they helped create.

Some of you are so cute on here trying to act like Shell is suddenly having a change of heart. Once again, it comes down to money. They’re facing a lawsuit in the Netherlands for not supporting the Paris Agreement in a country where they’re guaranteed to lose unless they capitulate. Nothing like using a friendly court for a little blackmail, right?

Gee, I wonder why a country that is below sea level would have grave concerns about rising sea levels.

Well, now you know why they did this. Good old fashioned strong arming. Gotta love that blackmail, right?

Royal Dutch Shell has always been a tad more realistic then their American counterparts.

Glad we got rid of all oil stock years ago.
