Jessica Farrar is what the Leftists in Houston think their Representatives should do - propose crazy bills that are meaningless. She proposes abolishing the Texas Death Penalty every term ... and we have been stuck with her for 18 Terms. She proposed making Infanticide a maximum 2 year sentence for new Mothers, making it illegal for police officers to ask about Immigration status.
She is much like the US House Democrats..... useless.
I just looked at the boundaries of that district, and it doesn't surprise me that she has been voted in 18 times.
The bill was meant to be a tongue and cheek response to some of the restrictions to women's reproductive health services (and not just abortions). Also, the article is two years old....
This is obvious to anyone with a functioning brain. There was a movie where this was talked about, I can't remember which one. For some reason "Legally Blonde" comes to mind.
Laws are made by the people. If the people want laws based on religious values, that's fine. As long as it's the people driving it (which is how our government works - laws are passed by the officials we elect).
Due to freedom of religion, however, the laws should not oppress people of other religions. So if you belong to an organized religion that requires you to masturbate for religious purposes, you should not be fined.
When it comes to civil liberties and rights, it is not uncommon for laws "made by the people" to be struck down even if popular. It is rare for the courts to consider popularity in cases of civil rights/liberties. The bar to pass laws is higher than simply pointing to the bible verse. Tyranny over a minority can also come under the guise "religious values".
Be careful what you ask for btw... Sharia law advocates say the same... that people make the laws and if the people are religious then it is acceptable.
The law has many flaws in her thinking. She says each time a guy does it to himself the sanctity of life is risked. So do we also need a bill to charge women $100 each time she has a period?
And a 24 hour waiting period for a colonoscope procedure. What does that have to do with making babies? Do we tell women that they can't see a gyno without a 24 hour waiting period?
Just woman being stupid because they got all butthurt because the men don't want them killing their unborn babies.
The Bible says not to spill seed, so I think this is reasonable. After all, our laws are based on the Bible, right? If I remember correctly, the man who "pulled out" was put to death. Death penalty for those who practice this type of birth control seems about right. Those spilling their seed by their own hands (literally) should be happy that the only proposed penalty is a fine!
Following the Christian Bible is a Good Thing.
Did the bible foretell of robots? This bill sounds like a way to get more customers to those new robot brothels Texas has.
