It's amazing how conservatives reposition themselves on issues as the years go by.

In 2003..........If the times had said the WMD claim was bogus they'd have been accused of being liberal.

Much like Trump's heel spur avoidance of the draft. In the mid 60s the cons would have claimed he was a draft dodger (well if he weren't rich and well connected). Now the cons defend him by claiming that it was an "immoral war" just like liberals like John Kerry said at the time.

SMH
"Liberal" is a shorthand comprehensive insult for whatever persons the accuser happens to dislike. Along with your examples, consider:

* From the 1950s through the 1980s, "the liberals" were cozying up to the USSR, while good conservatives hated the USSR, as bastion of mendacity and evil. Now the conservatives are regarding Russia as a worthy partner, while "the liberals" are impugned for being hysterical about Russian meddling.

* Romneycare was a Republican idea for healthcare reform in Massachusetts. It's very similar to Obamacare. Today's conservatives repudiate what once they embraced, tarring liberals each time.

In effect, to be liberal means to be, purportedly, out of touch with mainstream America - or to be outright un-American. Specific issues and positions don't matter. Basically, liberal = bad. Everything else is details.

NYT has fallen a long way down, as will happen to any corporation, but there is still plenty of room for worse ahead. Rupert Murdoch could buy it.

Truth hurts, doesn't it.

The Times is a newspaper best used to line the bottom of a bird cage. I'd call it fake news but that label doesn't seem to go far enough.

The angry “Right” will do anything to stop the free press. They only want their FAKE news on every television 24/7.
